Philippe Clement’s side are walking something of a tightrope after dropping points in their most recent league games against Ross County and Dundee – two fixtures they were expected to win. Their fate remains in their own hands but only if they win their remaining five fixtures.
Saints, meanwhile, are seeking to seal a memorable return to European football for the first time since the 1987/88 season. Finishing fifth in the league will do it, but they face an almighty battle with Dundee. Any points in this game would be a sizeable bonus.

⚔️ St Mirren v Rangers Head-to-Head
This will be the fourth meeting between these sides this season, including the third in Paisley. All three previous games have been won by Rangers, who have not conceded a goal to the Buddies in the last four clashes between these teams.
The Gers’ margin of success, though, has been diminishing. After winning an October clash 3-0, they have since recorded 2-0 and 1-0 wins. The first encounter was skewed, however, by a first half red card for St Mirren wing back Ryan Strain.
Rangers have enjoyed at least 63% of the ball in these matches but have only managed 16 shots on targets across these games. This is well below their season average of 7.22 per game in the Premiership.
St Mirren, meanwhile, have managed at least three corners in each of their fixtures against Rangers but have managed a feeble total of just five shots on target against the Gers.
📊 St Mirren Form and Stats
St Mirren limped into the top six as they suffered three defeats in their four matches prior to the break. Steven Robinson’s side did have a tough run of fixtures, playing three of the top five, yet this is the standard of team they will face on Saturday.
Most recently, they were beaten by Rangers’ title rivals Celtic 3-0 away from home. They failed to register a shot on target in that game and had just two efforts of any type. On top of this, they conceded 11 corners to just one won.
Saints did manage to keep the game relatively clean, though. Giving up 12 fouls, they saw only two cards. They have not seen more than two cards in a game in any of their last nine league outings.
In the shots on target stakes, Toyosi Olusanya leads Saints over the course of their last five games with just four efforts on target. It may be either he or Mandron that starts this game, though.
📊 Rangers Form and Stats
Rangers have not been at their best in recent weeks, with a run of two wins across eight games in all competitions, putting their title hopes under major pressure.
Philippe Clement’s side might have kept a clean sheet against Dundee prior to the break, but they had conceded in five successive games. They leaked three goals in back-to-back fixtures against Celtic and Ross County.
It is little surprise, then, that Rangers’ opponents are getting away a dramatically increased number of shots in recent games. They have given up double figures in shots in seven of their last nine games in the Premiership and Europe. Prior to this, they had given up double figures in shots on only 10 occasions all season.
Even last weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts, claimed 2-0 thanks to a double from Dessers, was not the smoothest of performances.
Fabio Silva is likely to replace the injured Abdallah Sima in this clash. The much-hyped Portuguese has been a flop at Rangers. He has only scored two Premiership goals, despite mustering 1.47 shots on target per 90. Even these have dried up in recent weeks, though. He has failed to hit the target in three of his last five starts in the league and Europe.
💰 St Mirren v Rangers Best Bets
Rangers to win at 1.3 should be a relatively safe bet but those chasing a bigger prize can back the Rangers (-1) handicap at 2.0 on Betfair. It would have been a winning bet in all three matches between the clubs already this season, and with goal difference a potential factor in the title race, the Ibrox club will be chasing another significant win here.
Cyriel Dessers to score anytime at 2.0 also on Betfair offers good value given he has already netted against Saints this season and boasts a record 0.55 goals per 90 in the league.
