I've spotted a nice price on 4th-placed St Pauli ahead of their Friday night trip to Stuttgart. The market is yet to get on board with their good start to the season.

St Pauli Double Chance

I strongly believe St Pauli can leave Stuttgart with a result on Friday night. They have scored at least twice in every league game this season, while Stuttgart’s defensive frailties remain glaring.

Sebastian Hoeneß’s side have conceded 12 goals in just five competitive matches this campaign, continuing a trend from last season where they leaked 1.56 per game in the Bundesliga (1.59 at home). With St Pauli’s renewed attacking edge, I do anticipate finding the net.

Given that Stuttgart have only managed to score two or more just the once so far this season (and that being against second-tier opposition), the risk of them overpowering St Pauli and spoiling this bet feels slimmer than the odds suggest.

In their second season back in the Bundesliga after 13 years away, St Pauli look to be building something far more sustainable. After defying expectations last season to avoid relegation, Alexander Blessin’s side have carried real momentum into this campaign and now face another test as they travel south to face last season’s DFB-Pokal winners, Stuttgart. The market may make the home side clear favourites, but on current evidence St Pauli have every reason to believe they can leave Swabia with a result.

  • Stuttgart have won 5+ corners in each of their opening three Bundesliga games and their last four competitive fixtures.

  • They have scored in every game this season (five from five).

  • St Pauli have scored 2+ goals in all three Bundesliga matches so far.

  • St Pauli have conceded no more than three corners in any league game this season.

  • They remain unbeaten in all competitions (W3, D1).

Domestic Cup Champions Stumbling for Consistency

After Stuttgart’s bright start last season, where they sat 4th after 19 rounds, their form collapsed with just 15 points from their final 13 games. Hoeneß steadied the ship by guiding them to DFB-Pokal glory, their first trophy in 18 years, but the cracks remain. The summer departure of star man Nick Woltemade to Newcastle was a significant blow, and though the new arrivals bring quality, results haven’t followed. Defeat to Bayern in the Franz Beckenbauer Cup and just one win from three league fixtures suggest the same erratic form continues. Consistency at home has been their biggest weakness, where they haven’t managed back-to-back league wins at the Mercedes-Benz Arena since January.

🔴 St Pauli’s Second-Season Surge

St Pauli’s survival story last season was remarkable given their limited resources, but this year they look far stronger. Reinforced by smart summer signings after losing Morgan Guilavogui and others, Blessin’s side appear more complete. Their start has been electric: three wins and a draw in all competitions, which includes that spirited comeback against Dortmund in the opening round. Sitting 4th in the table after three rounds, St Pauli look anything but relegation fodder and have momentum firmly on their side.

📊 Stuttgart v St Pauli H2H

This fixture leans heavily Stuttgart’s way, with 10 wins from the last 12 meetings (D1, L1) and just three losses in their last 23 to date. Both sides did win away from home last season, each by a 1-0 scoreline, hinting at how closely matched this clash may be.
