Holstein Kiel v Ingolstadt (Bundesliga 2)
🏟
Sunday 20th March – 12:30PM KO
Holstein Kiel, despite being fairly safe, are still looking to book a few good results in their bid to stay up in the 2. Bundesliga. They face off against bottom ranked and as good as relegated Ingolstadt.
Holstein Kiel’s most recent result was a 3-2 loss against fellow struggling side Hansa Rostock. Kiel fell behind but equalized twice, but had to admit defeat late in the match. Kiel find themselves four points clear of sixteenth ranked Dynamo Dresden, but twelve points clear of Erzgebirge Aue and even sixteen clear of current opponent Ingolstadt. Kiel have lost four in a row, but after two slight defeats (3-2 and 4-3) I can see them book a good result hosting Ingolstadt, as also prior to their two last results they have won 4 and drawn 2 at home.
Ingolstadt mathematically are not relegated, but would somehow need to overcome a 12 point deficit over Dynamo Dresden with eight games still to play. Ingolstadt have also lost three in a row and have failed to win their last five league matches. To make matters worse, the side have booked the least amount of wins (3) in the league and the most amount of losses (17). They have scored the least amount of goals (22) and conceded the highest number of goals (51) in the league.
Both sides are missing a few players due to injuries, but the totals seem to even out roughly which keeps the overall advantage to the home side. Finn Porath (24 apps, 3 goals) and Hauke Wahl (18 apps) are out. But for Ingolstadt life mainly without Michael Heinloth (18 apps) and suspended Denis Linsmayer (20 apps) will not be too easy. This should be a home win.

FC Nürnberg v Dynamo Dresden (Bundesliga 2)
🏟
Saturday 20th March – 12:30PM KO
Home team FC Nürnberg are doing well and are still competing for promotion. They face off against struggling Dynamo Dresden, who will normally avoid the direct drop, but are still battling to avoid the promotion/relegation playoffs as they are currently sixteenth.
FC Nürnberg are fourth, trailing the top three sides by just three points and all left to play for. Their most recent result is a good 3-0 away win over Hannover 96. This marks an impressive four straight victories and all looking good for the home side.
Dynamo Dresden on the other hand trail 15th ranked SV Sandhausen by three points, but they have established a comfortable 9 point lead over Erzgebirge Aue. Most recently Dresden managed a 1-1 draw hosting St. Pauli. Christoph Daferner scored his 11th goal of the season and is always a threat. Although this draw is not a bad result, this does mean that Dresden are now on a poor streak of nine games without a win. They also managed to score just five goals in their last nine league games played.
There are no major injuries or any suspensions for Nürnberg, which gives them another advantage for this match up. We cannot say the same for Dresden. Starting players Ransford Königsdorffer (25 apps, 4 goals), Chris Löwe (21 apps, 1 goal) are two key players who are out. They miss a few more back up players as well, so I can see Nürnberg win this rather comfortably.

Dortmund II v Eintracht Braunschweig (3. Liga)
🏟
Monday 21st March – 6:00PM KO
The Dortmund reserve team find themselves in a mid-table ranking but have booked some results that are less than impressive. I think they will be on the shorthand of the stick, hosting Eintracht Braunschweig, who still have all to play for and trail a promotion position by just one point.
Dortmund II have not been doing well as of late, as their most recent result, a 3-1 loss to Würzburger Kickers means they have lost four straight in a row. Dortmund have now won 12 and lost 13 of their 30 league matches played, which means they sit in 11th place. They have scored 42 and allowed 39 in their games played.
Braunschweig suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to fellow promotion candidates FC Saarbrücken. They did, however, have a streak of six games without losing prior to this loss. Their track record away from home is also good. They are actually second in the league looking at just the performance away from home. Braunschweig have lost just one of their last six away games, and booked two comfortable wins most recently; 3-0 over Waldhof Mannheim and 6-0 over Viktoria Berlin.
Dortmund will start first goalkeeper Luka Unbehaun, but will hope nothing happens. They were unable to dress a reserve goalkeeper against Würzburg and may face the same fate against Braunschweig. Marko Pasalic is doubtful, he may be replaced by Ted Tattermusch. Philipp Strompf is a question mark for Braunschweig. He had to sit out the previous game due to Covid. Brian Behrendt (26 apps, 1 goal) should replace him again. I don’t expect this to have a major outcome on the results, and that means I see this as an away win.
