  • The Patriots' offense ranks fourth in explosive play rate this season with 15.2%, ahead of the Seahawks with 14.4%.

  • During the regular season, the Patriots put up 28.8 points per game, with the Seahawks just behind on 28.4.

  • No quarterback scrambled more in the regular season than the Patriots’ Drake Maye, who took off 63 times.

  • During the regular season, the Seahawks allowed just 27 sacks, nearly half of the Patriots' 48.

  • The teams are incredibly close from a discipline perspective, with the Patriots giving up just one 10 less penalties across the whole season. The Seahawks had 217 (100 offense, 117 defense) and the Patriots 107 (99 offense, 108 defense).

📈 Seattle Seahawks @ New England Patriots Form & Tactics

Both teams finished with 14-3 records in the regular season, although you could argue that the Seahawks had a far harder season. The Patriots' strength of schedule was ranked 32nd of 32 teams, while the Seahawks were fourth, thanks in part to the strength in their division. The Seahawks won the bye, so they have only played two playoff games, but in the 49ers and Rams, they’ve been top opposition, whereas the Patriots’ path has arguably been easier, especially given the Broncos' loss of Bo Nix to injury.

The data suggests that are two good teams. In terms of offensive DVOA, the Patriots are ranked fifth, and the Seahawks eighth, and defensively, the Seahawks sit at the top, with the Patriots in 12th.

However, one of my favourite metrics is EPA per play. On offense, that ranks the Patriots at number one in the NFL, and the Seahawks down in 15th. In passing, the Pats are top, and the Seahawks eighth, and the rush puts New England 20th and the Seahawks down as low as 29th.

Defensively, EPA per play ranked the Seahawks second only to the Texans in the regular season, with the Patriots just outside the top 10, in 11th. It’s the Seahawks ability against the rush, ranking one, compared to eighth against the pass, that really stands out. The Patriots stand 11th against the pass and 16th against the run.

Given the Patriots relatively easy playoff opponents, it’s hard to gauge where they’re at, but the Seahawks victory over the Rams in the Conference Championship game was a mix of fantastic defense, good special teams and some inspired playcalling on offense. It very much looked like Super Bowl-winning play.

📔 Seattle Seahawks @ New England Patriots Formation & Team News

Both the Patriots and Seahawks have reasonably strong running games, and have throughout the season looked to have a two-headed backfield, although that will change for the Seahawks with Zach Charbonnet missing here.

The Patriots have a pretty clean bill of health here. They have a number of defensive tackles, Eric Gregory and Joshua Farmer, both on IR, but realistically, these are players who won’t make a huge difference. Hunter Henry and Drake Maye are two big names who were on the team’s first injury report, but come Super Bowl Sunday, we’ll see them.

Charbonnet is the biggest absentee for the Seahawks, but they’re also missing wideout Tory Horton. On the first injury report following the Conference Championship win over the Rams, there were a couple of notable names. Jake Bobo scored a touchdown against the Rams and finds himself on there with a hand injury, but will likely play in the Super Bowl. Then there’s QB Sam Darnold. He’s been on these reports between games, so it’s no surprise, and it’s almost certain that he’ll be suiting up and healthy for the big game. So don’t read too much into that
