Chorley v York City (National League North)
🏟
Tuesday 12th April – 7:45PM KO
Tuesday sees Chorley host York City in a game that could have a big say on the race for the play-offs.
Chorley currently sit in 5th place, seven points ahead of Boston United and know that victory could all but secure not only a place in the top seven but also home advantage in their play-off eliminator. Their form has been indifferent in 2022, winning three of 12 matches leading into April, including two of five home matches. However, they come into this fixture unbeaten in three.
York City, meanwhile, know they could jump into sixth with victory here, as well as cutting the gap to Chorley to five points. York have lost three of their last four and are without a victory in four away from home. However, they should see key players Mitch Hancox and Michael Duckworth return for this one having been touch-and-go for the weekend clash with Brackley Town.
I’m backing both sides to score here. For starters, they both rank in the top three for xG for this season, only bettered by Gateshead. Chorley have accrued at least 1.3xG in every home since their opening day loss against Brackley Town and have scored twice in their last two home matches. They have kept just three clean sheets at home, however, against a Gloucester City side with 10 men and Guiseley and Leamington sides that can’t score away from home.
York City, meanwhile, are averaging 1.43xG away from home and have only recently been denied by a much-improved Kettering Town and a Brackley Town side that don’t concede goals. With Hancox and Duckworth returning, they should offer more attacking threat and know they will likely need to score to get a result at Chorley.

Kettering Town v Guiseley (National League North)
🏟
Tuesday 12th April – 7:45PM KO
Another key midweek clash between one side looking to finish in the top seven and another hoping to avoid the drop.
Guiseley know that this represents a huge opportunity to cut the gap on the sides above them given this is their game in hand on Blyth Spartans and Farsley Celtic. However, their away form this season has been abysmal. They have picked up just seven points away from home all season with their victories coming against lowly AFC Telford United and Chester. Before their 4-1 thrashing at Gloucester City at the weekend, they had not scored in five matches and have not scored more than once away from home all season.
It’s good reading for a Kettering Town side that are unbeaten in their last five matches, conceding just three goals. They are also unbeaten in six home matches having won each of their last two – against fellow play-off chasers Chorley and York City. The performances have been deserving of it too, aeraging 1.74xG in their last five home matches and conceding less than 1xG in three of those. The experienced Liam Daly is clearly having a positive impact at the back.
Ian Culverhouse’s side have scored two goals in four of their last six matches and if they repeat that feat on Tuesday, they win this football match.
