🟣 Early Signs of Progress for Potter’s West Ham Project

West Ham are a bit of an unknown quantity heading into the new season under Graham Potter, though there are some reasons for Hammers fans to feel optimistic as we head into the new season. The signings of Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters are more in line with how Potter wants to play, and we should expect a few more additions, especially in attacking areas, before the window is out. 

Their opening game of the summer series against Manchester United was a solid performance from West Ham. They grew into the game a bit more in the second half, with Potter trying out some new formations and positions for certain players throughout the game. It’s worth keeping an eye on some of the younger talents for West Ham during this pre-season tour. Players like Oliver Scarles and Lewis Orford were given small chances for West Ham last season and could feature more prominently this year with the East London side having a strong reputation as a developer of young talent.

🔵 New Signings Point to Changing Strategy at Everton

Everton have failed to win any of their pre-season games so far against Accrington, Blackburn, and Bournemouth. Their 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth last time out was a little concerning. The result isn’t really that important, but David Moyes will be after a more accomplished performance from his side in this second game of the PL Summer Series. 

There have been signs of life for Everton in the transfer window with the acquisition of Thierno Barry and the permanent signing of Carlos Alcaraz after his initial loan move. Further links to Adam Aznou and Malick Fofana suggest that Everton are taking a refreshed approach to their recruitment, which is more in line with the trends we are seeing across the Premier League.
