Betting on Hungary Games for Euro 2024
An unbeaten qualifying stage has pushed Hungary up to the 26th ranked country in FIFA’s world rankings. It’s arguable that this was somewhat expected as Hungary were by far the best side in their Euro qualifying group considering all of the other teams were ranked below them by a decent margin, but they sure showed strength, netting two or more times in six of their eight fixtures.
Hungary were very prolific in creating chances with the Magyars amassing an average of 15.1 shots on goal per 90 during qualifying, with 5.63 shots hitting the target. This abundance of goal threat translated very well into goals, with over 2.5 goals landing in six of their eight qualifier fixtures, assisted by their defensive vulnerabilities, conceding in five games.
Hungary’s qualifiers certainly kept the officials busy, with an average of 5.38 bookings being distributed per 90, including Marco Rossi’s side picking up two red cards. Combined with an average of 24.9 fouls per 90, certainly look to the disciplinary markets for Hungary’s contests.
As to nobody’s surprise, Liverpool talisman Dominik Szoboszlai was critical to his nation’s success in the groups, scoring four goals and picking up three assists. The Hungary captain was producing 0.87 G+A per 90 and will play an essential role in Hungary’s hunt for qualification from Group A – keep an eye out on the score or assist markets for Szoboszlai in Euro 2024.
Barnabas Varga also impressed during qualifying, grabbing four goals from only six shots on target. He has been in fine form for Ferencvaros in the Hungarian first division, scoring 20 goals from 23 appearances this season, guiding his side to their sixth consecutive division win. It is no doubt Varga and Szoboszlai are the noteworthy players in this Hungary side and will certainly be the two players to target in shots on target markets.
Hungary’s best finishes in this tournament were third and fourth place, dating all the way back to 1964 and 1972 which was followed by a 44-year absence from the Euro finals, ended by their group stage elimination in 2016 and failure to qualify for the 2020 tournament.
