Plenty of value across the EFL 3pms
If Oldham deliver on the promise they showed in the second half of last season, and their opening weekend 2-0 win over newly-relegated Port Vale, they'll be much shorter in the coming weeks, and the chance to pounce on some early value will evaporate.
Colchester rode their luck to the extreme in grabbing a 2-2 draw at Accrington last weekend, scoring a controversial equaliser, conceding nearly 3 xG against an Accy side expected to struggle and had just seven shots in total - mustering just two in the first half.
New signing, Calum Kavanagh, marked his league debut with a brace for Oldham last weekend, they've a manager in Micky Mellon who's been there and done it at this level, and an automatic promotion tilt will be the target.
They travel to a Colchester side who were arguably the least impressive EFL side on the opening weekend.
The 98th-minute limbs masked an underwhelming return to the Championship from Cardiff on Monday night.
They trailed Wrexham from the 3rd minute to the 98th, and could only muster nine shots in total.
Cardiff were second-best, keeper, Nathan Trott, made seven saves to keep them in the game.
Derby were edged out 2-1 at Charlton on the opening day, but have plenty of Championship pedigree, and proven firepower at the top of the pitch in Carlton Morris and Sammie Szmodics, that could make light work of Cardiff’s unproven defensive unit.
Cardiff finished 12 points behind Lincoln in League One last season, while Derby missed out on the play-offs by just four points, that gap in quality could be clear to see at Pride Park.
Charlton aren’t at West Ham’s level.
Their goals in their 2-1 win over Derby last time out were from a set piece and a counter attack.
Charlton will be well drilled without the ball, but West Ham should dominate the duels on the flanks, with Jarrod Bowen and Manor Solomon more than capable of getting the better of Amari'i Bell and Dan McNamara with regularity.
This is a short price, but it's one that could be a lot shorter if it wasn't so early on in the season and if the Hammers score early and force Charlton to have to break out of their defensive shape, they could put on a show in their opening home league game.
Peterborough saw both teams score a lot last season, the 5th-most times in the division.
I expect a similar record this season, along with another tough campaign looking over their shoulders.
They generated 1.11 xG in their 2-0 loss at Bradford last weekend, while Mansfield beat Doncaster 2-1.
Three of the last four meetings between the sides have seen over 2.5 goals, with BTTS landing in two of those.
Peterborough were the 2nd-highest scorers in the bottom half last season, and they actually outscored Mansfield, who finished 10th.
They only failed to score in 10 of 46 games and will retain that attacking mindset with Luke Williams in the dugout, who prioritises in-possession quality and doesn't have the defensive nous in his ranks to keep Mansfield out.
Peterborough kept just five clean sheets from their 23 League One home games last term.
Orient are still being underestimated by the market, which presents an opportunity for a shrewd acca-booster this weekend.
They scored after just 25 minutes and created 1.38 xG against heavily-fancied Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, while Wigan were 3-0 down after 53 minutes at newly-promoted Cambridge (eventually losing 3-2).
Richie Wellens knows how to foster a dynamic attacking unit, and they'll improve over time as he beds in some new faces at the top of the pitch.
Wigan have conceded six goals in their three games in all competitions so far, and Orient have scored four in their three.
Wigan have lost key players at the back, and their back three was very unconvincing at Cambridge - Orient represent a step up in class.
Exeter are so inexperienced, and relying on young players to this extent does not scream defensive solidity.
Remember they lost 10-1 to Man City last season.
They lost the shot count 19-8 and were swept aside comfortably by Grimsby last weekend, despite only losing 1-0.
While Accy have scored in each of their opening two games, and could’ve had more as they generated 2.77 xG, 2.11 in the first half alone, in a 2-2 draw with Colchester last weekend.
They don't have a great squad, but they play to their strengths and will test a creaking Exeter backline that'll have the fans against them early on if they don't take the lead.
