Malen to continue devastating start to the season

  • Roma v Atalanta
  • Tomorrow

Malen had a brilliant spell on loan with Roma last season, he finished his half-season stint with 14 goals and two assists in just 18 games.

He’s started this campaign in truly outrageous fashion. He’s scored five goals in two matches and kicked off the season with a hat-trick.

Roma have been sublime, winning both games 4-0. The attack really has it all, the pace and finishing ability of Malen, supplied by the creativity of Dybala and Soule, it’s a terrifying combo.

He hasn’t registered an assist yet, but did pick up a couple last season and with the quality around him I like the added security it offers as opposed to an anytime goal scorer bet.

As mentioned, Roma have netted four goals in each of their two Serie A matches so far and have looked so sharp in attack. Malen’s arrival last season gave them that cutting edge and now retaining him looks to have unlocked his full potential.

Atalanta have also had a good start to the season, winning both matches. One of the two saw over 2.5 goals as they beat Sassuolo 2-1 on match day one.

Roma’s defence haven’t been tested yet, but Atalanta have the players to do so. Raspadori, Scamacca and De Ketelaere form a formidable front-line and I’d expect that Roma’s 100% clean sheet record doesn’t last to week four.

Soule was excellent when coming on in the season opener and earned himself a start against Lecce. He played 59 minutes, scored a goal, had four shots and three on target.

He has a lovely left foot and has scored some impressive goals throughout his career.

Soule had a decent season last year with 11 G/A in Serie A. He had 18 shots on target, a total that could only be beaten by Donyell Malen.

That worked out to an average of 0.76 shots on target per 90 minutes. I’d expect Roma to win the match and you could pick any of that frontline for some shots on target.

Scalvini is a very talented young defender, but he does make mistakes and he’s fond of a foul.

He’s already committed three across his first two Serie A matches, two against Bologna and one against Sassuolo.

This is nothing new either and he’s right in-line with his average for last season where he was committing 1.54 fouls per 90 minutes.

He’ll be in close proximity to Malen, Dybala and Soule have combined for an average of 3.33 fouls drawn per 90 minutes so far this season.

This should be an open, attacking game and with how sharp that front three look for Roma, you’d be well placed to look at Atalanta fouls.
