Harry Kane Anytime Goalscorer

Harry Kane scored in the German Super Cup final against Stuttgart as Bayern ran out 2-1 winners to get their campaign underway. The 32 year old netted 38 goals across his 46 appearances in all competitions last season with 26 of goals coming in the Bundesliga, making him top scorer in the division. Kane didn’t manage to score against Leipzig last season but Bayern scored eight goals across their two head to head meetings against Leipzig last season so there should be plenty of opportunities for Kane to strike here.

RB Leipzig to score

RB Leipzig scored in both head to head meetings against Bayern Munich last season, including scoring three in the most recent clash between the sides. Leipzig had one of their poorest domestic campaigns in recent memory last year which led to the sacking of head coach Marco Rose but they have plenty of firepower through Simons, Bakayoko, Nusa and Openda. I’m not fully convinced that this Bayern backline can rock solid throughout the season seeing as Vincent Kompany hasn’t really strengthened that area of his squad as of yet.

  • There were six goals in both head to head league meetings between these sides last season (5-1, 3-3).

  • Bayern Munich have added Luis Diaz to their attacking options, the Colombian scored his first goal for the club in the German Super Cup final against Stuttgart which Bayern won 2-1.

  • RB Leipzig have appointed Ole Werner as their new manager, he becomes one of the youngest managers in the Bundesliga at the age of just 37.

🔴 Questions around Bayern's summer recruitment

Bayern reached the quarter finals of the Club World Cup only to be knocked out by eventual finalists PSG so they have had a slightly shorter summer break than Leipzig. They won all three of their pre-season friendlies against Lyon, Tottenham and Grasshopper - but did only keep one clean sheet across these matches.

They also conceded to Stuttgart in the German Super Cup final but still managed to lift the trophy with a 2-1 win over Sebastian Hoeness’ side. Bayern have had an interesting transfer window, the approach very much seems to be buying established top level talent with the signings of Luis Diaz and Jonathan Tah, with Christopher Nkunku also heavily linked. However, Bayern’s squad is very thin and there are question marks as to whether these signings can take them to the next level.

Leipzig looking to rebuild after an underwhelming season

RB Leipzig were really poor at times last season, especially in the Champions League but they’ll start this season with a fresh slate as 37 year old Ole Werner takes to the dugout having previously been at Holstein Kiel and Werder Bremen. In the four years he was at Werder Bremen, Werner got Werder Bremen promoted from the Bundesliga 2 and has established them with three mid table finishes, earning a move to a top side.

Leipzig have plenty of exciting and young attacking players. Benjamin Sesko may have moved on to Manchester United but Leipzig will have been glad to have kept players like Lois Openda and Antonio Nusa who could also go for big fees in the coming summer windows.

📊 Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig H2H

These sides met twice last season with both meetings producing six goals.

Bayern ran out 5-1 winners in the meeting at the Allianz Arena before the sides played out a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture.
