Bournemouth host Everton with the Cherries looking to climb out of a tough period of form which has seen them fail to win across their last four matches in all competitions.
Everton returned from the international break well with a commendable 1-0 win over Manchester United but then took a few steps back with a 4-1 defeat at home against Newcastle.

📂 Bournemouth v Everton Cheat Sheet
📈 Bournemouth v Everton Form & Stats
The main issue that Bournemouth are facing at the moment is that opposition sides are starting to work out their pressing patterns. The Cherries play with an impressive press which traps the opposition, and means that they can get shots away in close proximity to the goal.
However, sides are starting to come up with a plan to counter this press with the most common option being to miss it out altogether. You’ll see sides go more direct against Bournemouth, knowing that as many as five players commit to an aggressive press in the final third - which means that sides can generate overloads with long balls against Bournemouth, Sunderland did this expertly last time out.
Bournemouth’s defensive numbers across recent weeks are also a cause for concern. They’ve conceded 2+ goals in each of their last four matches, with three of these games seeing them concede 3+ goals. They could struggle with Everton’s playstyle here with the Toffees ranking third for accurate long balls per game (22.7). That being said, Bournemouth have won each of the last five head to head meetings between these sides.
I’ve long held the opinion that David Moyes is not the right fit for this Everton side, and some of their underlying numbers now reflect this. Everton rank bottom in the Premier League for shots on target which isn’t in line with the attacking talent they now have in the side. Moyes could be much bolder with the attacking options he has both in the starting lineup and on the bench.
You’ve seen the two sides of Everton over recent weeks, the resilience to get all three points with ten men at Old Trafford followed by the naivety of allowing Newcastle to dominate the game in their 4-1 defeat to the Magpies last time out.
📔 Bournemouth v Everton Formation & Team News
Bournemouth line up in a 4-2-3-1, but have also lined up in a 4-1-4-1 this season. This shape is all about the intensity of Bournemouth’s press, they like to push forward with as many as five attacking players with Alex Scott usually pressing on to join the attacking setup. This is a really risky approach, and Bournemouth are starting to get caught out with 2+ goals conceded in each of their last four matches across all competitions.
Eli Kroupi has shown some really bright signs in leading the line for Bournemouth this term, though Evanilson has come back into the frame as Andoni Iraola attempts to find a solution for his sides’ issues at the moment. Iraola is an intelligent coach and should be able to come up with a backup plan now that sides are starting to play through the Bournemouth press more easily.
Everton will line up in a 4-2-3-1 with a focus on platforming their wide players. Grealish and Ndiaye have been really bright, but the lack of goal threat from Barry and Beto up front means that Everton have one of the least effective forwards lines in the Premier League right now.
There are a few suspensions for this game with Lewis Cook and Idrissa Gueye confirmed to be out after picking up red cards at the weekend. Expect injuries to pile up for all sides in the coming weeks as we enter a very busy period of the campaign.
