Bayer Leverkusen’s talismanic homegrown wonderkid Florian Wirtz has been averaging 1.70 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Champions League so far this season, and he was Die Werkself’s brightest performer in their first away test at Feyenoord on matchday one when he hit two of his team’s four goals.

Wirtz, who featured in just 26 minutes of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga win over Frankfurt at the weekend, still managed to clock two shots on target in that brief appearance and he should be well rested on Wednesday following that cameo. The 21-year-old provides superb value in the 1+ shots on target stakes again here.

Mahdi Camara catches the eye as a worthwhile prospect in the 1+ fouls bracket for Brest on Wednesday. The industrious midfielder has been fouling at a rate of 3.75 times per 90 in the Champions League so far and the 26-year-old gave away a whopping five free kicks in Brest’s last home fixture in the competition against Sturm Graz.

Camara loves to engage in ground duels and he has committed at least one foul in seven of his last eight runouts in all competitions for Les Pirates. The combative sort should be able to meet a target of one foul with room to spare here.

Bayer Leverkusen kept clean sheets against Feyenoord and AC Milan on matchdays one and two, though they might find it tougher to secure a shutout in France against a Brest side that have outperformed Die Werkself for xGF (4.10 to 3.50) in the Champions League so far.

Indeed, Brest rarely fail to register and they managed to score at least once in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions. Leverkusen carry plenty of attacking threat themselves, but have had defensive lapses at times and BTTS has landed in 70% of their last ten games in all comps as a result. We’re anticipating a similar outcome when they visit Brest.

Brest’s 4-0 win against RB Salzburg on matchday two was a proper eye-catching result, however, they needed Dutch keeper Marco Bizot to be in top form in that triumph and the 33-year-old was called into action to make seven saves in Austria.

Bizot is likely to be just as busy against formidable German champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Stade du Roudourou. Die Werkself racked up 27 attempts and 13 shots on target combined in their wins over Feyenoord and AC Milan and they have the tools to pepper Brest’s goal in similar style. Bizot will be bracing himself for a busy evening and backing him to make four or more saves looks like a good fit with that in mind.

Brest midfielder Hugo Magnetti is on the docket at a big price to land just a single shot on target against Bayer Leverkusen and the 26-year-old takes good form in that direction into Wednesday’s tussle with the German giants.

Magnetti has been averaging a solid 2.00 shots and 1.00 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Champions League this term and he managed to find his range once in each of Brest’s first two UCL fixtures against Sturm Graz and RB Salzburg respectively.

The accurate shooter clocked two attempts and one shot on target against Rennes in Ligue 1 at the weekend to maintain his consistent output and Magnetti is backed to let loose at least once again against Leverkusen.

Granit Xhaka isn’t quite the aggressive midfield force he once was during his Arsenal days, though the Swiss international still has a cynical side and he committed two fouls in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over AC Milan on matchday two in the Champions League Group Stage.

Xhaka was collared for a foul in three of his last four appearances for Die Werkself overall and the timing of his tackles should be tested by a Brest side that packs a punch on the counter attack. The French outfit are the Champions League’s most fouled team so far (19.50 p/90), so back Xhaka to give away at least one free kick against Les Pirates.

The wingbacks in Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen formation tend to see plenty of action in the final third and Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong routinely finds himself in very advanced positions for the German champions.

Frimpong, who averaged 0.98 shots on target per 90 minutes during Leverkusen’s run to the Europa League final last term, showcased his dynamism on matchday two in this season’s UCL when he lodged four attempts against AC Milan.

One of those efforts tested Mike Maignan between the sticks and the adventurous 23-year-old earns the nod to register another accurate attempt against Brest.

Brest have enjoyed a dream start to their maiden Champions League campaign, though their early winning streak in the competition could come to a shuddering halt against Bayer Leverkusen. The in-form visitors, who have won five and drawn two of their last seven matches in all competitions, seem to be recapturing last season’s devastating form and their latest victory over Eintracht Frankfurt featured 3.8 in xGF for Die Werkself.

Xabi Alonso’s troops have been particularly effective on the road this term and they managed to win four of their first five competitive away games of the season, with a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich their only slight misstep. Leverkusen roared to a 4-0 win at Feyenoord in their last away assignment in the Champions League and they backed to prevail again in France.
