Canada has never made it out of the group stages at the World Cup, but they will have their sights set on making history this summer, hoping to take advantage of playing their group games on home turf.

Canada also look like one of the stronger sides in Group B alongside Switzerland, Qatar and Bosnia.

🌍 How did Canada qualify for the 2026 World Cup?

Canada qualified for the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts, and they topped their CONCACAF group in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, proving they are one of the most competitive sides from North America.

Canada had a record of eight wins, four draws, and two losses in their 14 games, with 23 goals scored and just seven conceded, finishing above both Mexico and the USA.

Canada have had plenty of friendlies in recent months, but they were left disappointed in the Gold Cup, which was their most recent major international competition.

They were eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing on penalties to Guatemala.

👔 Who is the Canada manager at the World Cup 2026?

After taking on his first international job in May 2024, Jesse Marsch will lead a side into the World Cup for the first time in his career.

The former Leeds manager is known for his high-energy, intense play style, which can often lead to quite open and expansive games.

He is likely to stick with his trusted 4-4-2 formation, looking to play on the break against the stronger sides with plenty of transitional threats in his ranks.

🔎 Who are Canada's key players to watch at World Cup 2026?

Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies is widely considered the face of the Canadian team and will be a crucial player. He was ruled out of the March friendlies, although that was confirmed to be a non-serious injury, so he will likely play a large role again this summer.

The Bayern Munich man scored Canada’s first-ever goal at a World Cup, and tends to operate in more advanced areas for his national side, utilising his rapid speed on the counter.

Tajon Buchanan

Tajon Buchanan looks set to feature on the opposite flank, and he is another dangerous player on his day. Although the 27-year-old has only got six goals and one assist to his name for Villarreal this season, he likes to drive at his opposing defender and cause problems on the break.

He scored three goals in four appearances at the Gold Cup, which proves that he can carry a threat in the final third.

Stephen Eustaquio

Stephen Eustaquio was another key player absent during the March friendlies, but that was again just a minor injury, and the midfielder is also expected to play a big role this summer for Canada. Operating in a defensive midfield role, Eustaquio will have plenty of ground to cover, and he likes to press strongly.

The 29-year-old has plenty of experience playing at the top level, and he was involved in Porto’s first team for five years before completing a move to LAFC over the summer.

Best Free Bets, Offers & Betting Sites for World Cup 2026

The World Cup is the ideal time to create a new bookmaker account because the Bookmaker Offers are much better. Andy and the Andy's Bet Club experts have tried and tested the Free Bets and here's their favourites:

Canada are currently a pretty high-odds longshot to win the tournament.

Despite being one of the host nations, the majority of bookmakers have them sat at around 150/1 to win the World Cup.

For context, it's roughly the same odds as Paraguay to win the World Cup.

Canada have essentially no chance of winning the World Cup this summer.

We may see an improved performance from their World Cup 2022 outing, given they are a host nation, and success would be getting out of Group B in all truth.

They are currently 13/8 to finish runner-up in Group B.

Canada are in Group B alongside Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia Herzegovina

GK: St. Clair

DEF: Laryea, Bombito, Cornelius, Davies

MID: Buchanan, Eustàquio, Koné, Ahmed

ATT: David, Larin

Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina kicks off at 20:00 GMT on June 12. Canada vs Qatar kicks off at 23:00 GMT on June 19. Switzerland vs Canada kicks off at 23:00 GMT on June 25.

Davies has had an injury-ridden season at Bayern Munich, and should he not be fit for the opening game against Bosnia, it will leave Canada without by far their greatest ever player.

Davies offers plenty going forward and defensively, and was a standout for them in the 2022 World Cup. Canada will struggle without Davies if he is not deemed fit.

Mathieu Choiniere and Ismael Kone are on free-kicks for the Canadians, with Jonathan David on penalties.
