4 Selections @ 4.33

Andrej Kramaric to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.72

Kramaric is still a real threat at the age of 34 for Croatia. He’s part of an ageing squad, which is probably past its peak years, but can still offer a threat to this Brazil side with Kramaric netting 35 goals across his 112 caps for Croatia.

Kramaric was a key player for Croatia during their World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring six goals across his five starts from 23 shots overall (3.96 per 90). Of those efforts, 11 found the target (1.89 per 90), giving Kramaric a healthy and consistent shots and shots on target record for his country over recent months.

Furthermore, Kramaric has netted 10 goals across his 20 starts for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He’s taken 51 shots across those games (2.67 per 90), seeing 25 of those efforts find the target (1.31 per 90). This consistency across both club and country when it comes to Kramaric’s shot on target numbers would suggest that he has a strong chance of finding the target at least once here.

Joao Pedro to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.25

Joao Pedro has enjoyed an excellent season for Chelsea to date, but still has some work to do to nail down a starting spot as Brazil’s striker at the World Cup. His main rival for this spot is Igor Thiago, who has also had a strong season for Brentford, as well as the likes of Vinicius Junior and Matheus Cunha, who could also be chosen to lead the line for Brazil in the summer.

I think Joao Pedro will eventually earn that spot as Brazil’s main striker. He has improved his shot output this season, which was a small concern I had before he joined Chelsea. Joao Pedro is averaging 2.44 shots per 90 in the Premier League - which could still be higher - but it is a substantial rise on the 2.17 shots per 90 he averaged while at Brighton last season.

If we look solely at Joao Pedro’s shot numbers since Liam Rosenior arrived at the club, he is averaging in excess of 3.0 shots per 90, which is where he needs to be consistently. Joao Pedro hasn’t really got a proper chance for Brazil yet, having only made seven caps since his debut in 2023. However, he is now a more serious challenger for the striker role and should seek to make an impression on Ancelotti here.

Casemiro to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.40

This is as generous as you are likely to see Casemiro be priced for a single foul, so it’s worth taking when he’s usually as short as 1.17 to commit a foul.

Casemiro committed a foul and was shown a yellow card against France last time out, suggesting that the ‘friendly’ nature of this fixture is loosely adhered to by the Manchester United midfielder.

He will be lining up against a Croatia side who are very technical in central areas, and should be able to exploit Casemito’s slight lack of pace and mobility at times.

Casemiro has committed 41 fouls across his 28 starts in the Premier League this season (1.72 per 90), showing just how aggressive the midfielder can be. He committed six fouls across his seven starts for Brazil during their World Cup qualifying campaign (0.91 per 90), which is a drop off from his Premier League average - but is still tempting enough to back him for a single foul.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.66

Brazil have generally been an entertaining watch under Carlo Ancelotti so far, with the former Real Madrid boss hoping his laissez-faire approach to management will end up complementing the flair and expression of this Brazil side.

Brazil have seen 3+ goals in three of their last five matches, including their recent friendly against France - which they lost 2-1. That friendly probably would have produced more goals if France kept all 11 players on the pitch, with Dayot Upamecano being sent off just after half time.

Croatia also saw three goals last time out as they came away 2-1 winners over Colombia. They’ve seen 3+ goals in each of their last four matches ahead of this clash, and will be willing to take on Brazil instead of sitting back and looking to pinch a result.

📈 Brazil v Croatia Form & Stats

Brazil are still finding their feet under Carlo Ancelotti, though the window for that stage is quickly closing with the World Cup fast approaching.

Brazil have won four of their nine matches under Ancelotti so far, most of those have been friendlies, so we can’t draw solid conclusions from them, but the squad is definitely disjointed. There is plenty of talent, especially in forward areas, but Ancelotti’s task will be to platform this talent in a way which entertains, as well as succeeds, which has been a real struggle for recent managers of Brazil.

Croatia often take to the field with far less pressure on them to perform. They are a small country, but regularly produce brilliant footballers, which culminated in a bit of a golden generation that reached the World Cup final back in 2018.

Croatia’s task now will be to rebuild for future tournaments. That spine in midfield of Marcelo Brozovic, Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric is unlikely to start many games at the World Cup, so platforming some of the younger players is now the best path forward for this Croatia side.

📔 Brazil v Croatia Formation & Team News

Brazil lined up in a 4-4-2 against France last time out, and have used this shape regularly under Carlo Ancelotti. The former Real Madrid boss has often set up his teams this way, leaning towards allowing players to express themselves rather than imposing strict tactical instructions.

It’ll be interesting to see how this more relaxed approach to management plays out in an era where managers are more involved than ever with tactical structures and systems. It may be the case that Ancelotti’s more relaxed approach is a bit outdated, as we saw in the final months of his tenure at Real Madrid.

That being said, the quality of Brazil’s attacking players almost lends itself to Ancelotti’s style and what Brazilians want to see from their national side. Winning is important, but the style and flair of the national team is just as crucial to the fans and has been lacking over the last few years.

Croatia lined up with a 3-5-2 against Colombia last time out, featuring a lot of new faces that people won’t have seen at international level before. There is still that experience in the squad with players like Kramaric, Modric and Ivan Perisic present - with the latter earning his 150th cap for his country against Colombia last time out.
