Crystal Palace welcome Finnish Champions KuPS to Selhurst Park, the visitors have ended their domestic season, with their sole focus now the Conference League. Palace currently sit 9th in the Conference League, just one spot below the automatic qualification places for the Quarter-Final.

KuPS sit in 25th place, just one place below the qualification spots for the round of 16. With plenty at stake for both sides, it should be an interesting encounter on Thursday evening.

📈 Crystal Palace v KuPS Form & Tactics

After winning the FA Cup and Charity Shield, Crystal Palace have continued their rise with a fantastic start to the season. Palace currently sit 5th in the Premier League, after accumulating 26 points from sixteen games. Their success is largely testament to a very sturdy and compact defence, conceding just 15 goals in those sixteen fixtures.

Palace may have lost 3-0 to Man City at the weekend, but it was a very competitive performance, and the result humbled the visitors. Palace had won three consecutive matches prior to the City game.

It’s been a positive start to Palace’s Conference League campaign with nine points from their first five games; they’ve picked up three wins and two defeats. A shock 1-0 home defeat to AEK Larnaca was a particular low point in their campaign.

It’s been a good season domestically for KuPS after winning the Finnish Veikkausliga by 6 points. However, their domestic campaign did end on the 9th November, and they’ve only been playing Conference League games and friendlies since.

The visitors are on six points after five games in the Conference League, picking up one win, three draws, and one defeat. This still leaves them with a credible chance of securing a round of 16 spot in the competition. However, there is a feeling KuPS have been getting slightly fortunate, they’ve lost the xG battle in four out of their five games.

📔 Crystal Palace v KuPS Formation & Team News

Oliver Glasner generally sticks to a 3-4-2-1 formation, which is also interchangeable with a 3-4-3. His teams are very compact in the centre of the pitch, forcing the opposition out wide. There’s an emphasis on being aggressive when the opportunities present themselves, and looking to be rapid in transition. Palace are a team that operate more effectively without the ball, sometimes finding it difficult to break down opposition that employ a low block and allow Palace to have the ball.

Notable names Palace are missing include Cheick Doucoure and Daniel Munoz, while Daichi Kamada is an injury question mark. Ismaila Sarr should miss out after travelling to AFCON with Senegal.

KuPS generally switch between a 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 formation depending on the opposition. It’s perhaps slightly unclear how they will line up for this game, but a 4-5-1 seems more plausible. Manager Jarkko Wiss prioritises defensive solidity, looking to frustrate opponents and remain competitive for long periods. When facing far superior opposition, KuPS utilise the counter attack as their main weapon. The visitors have often struggled to play out against a high press, often being suffocated for long periods and struggling to find an out ball.

KuPS have just one injury issue with Samuel Pasanen missing.
