⚪ Winless Start For Marco Silva
Fulham’s most recent game may have been lost in controversial circumstances, but Chelsea were the much better side overall. The Blues racked up 13 shots worth 2.35xG, conceding just 1.02xG in return.
Fulham were also fortunate to snatch a point in their two opening games - against Brighton they created just 0.76xG at the Amex Stadium, before a late Rodrigo Muniz strike bailed them out. The Cottagers were better against Man United in their first game at home this term, but were reliant on a 73rd-minute equaliser from Emile Smith-Rowe to take anything from it.
Fulham’s form tailed off drastically towards the end of last season - they lost eight of their last 12 matches from March onwards, dropping them from 8th in the standings to a measly 11th-placed finish. That poor run has continued into the new season, and Marco Silva will hope for something to change.
🟡 Leeds Lacking Confidence Up Front
Leeds got off to a winning start on their return to the top flight, beating Everton 1-0 at Elland Road. The hosts were dominant, amassing 2.13xG from 21 shots while conceding just 0.8xG in return, making the breakthrough with an 84th-minute penalty.
The Peacocks were then dealt a damning reality check at the Emirates Stadium, losing 5-0 against a clinical Arsenal side, mustering up just three shots in return. That loss seemed to really dent their confidence, as Leeds were then eliminated from the EFL Cup by Sheffield Wednesday in a shocking upset.
Leeds had plenty of chances to kill the game off in regular time, but they scored just once, despite having 25 shots and eight big chances.
Once again, a lack of cutting edge in the final third hindered Leeds against Newcastle, as their last game before the international break ended in a goalless stalemate at Elland Road.
📊 Fulham v Leeds H2H
These two sides have been well-balanced in head-to-head encounters in recent seasons’. The Cottagers did the league double over Leeds when these sides were both in the top flight during the 2022/23 campaign, but failed to beat Leeds in four encounters prior to that.
