Getafe open gameweek 11 of La Liga with the opportunity to close the gap on the European places, as they welcome bottom-of-the-table Girona to the Coliseum.

José Bordalás’ side head into this fixture after their 11-0 demolition of sixth tier Inter de Valdemoro in the Copa del Rey. Their visitors, meanwhile, required extra-time to overcome fifth-tier Constancia, highlighting the gulf in form and confidence between the two sides.

Over 3.5 Getafe Corners

It has been a torrid start to the season for the visitors, who sit rock bottom of the table with just one win, four draws and five defeats. Conceding an average of 2.2 goals per game highlights their defensive frailties, and while Getafe ended a five-game winless run last weekend, they should still find joy in this market against such a vulnerable opposition.

Despite only hitting four or more corners in half of their league matches this season, and in two of their four home games, Girona’s defensive and corner concession data makes this selection compelling. They are conceding an average of 6.3 corners per game, which soars to a staggering 9.25 on the road, which is the worst in La Liga by a considerable margin (1.65 more than any other side).

With nine of their 10 opponents this season reaching this mark, the only exception being Sevilla who fell just short with three, Getafe should have every chance to make it 10 from 11 opponents.

Getafe Double Chance

Girona’s form has been disastrous, and backing against them for victory looks one of the more logical plays this round. The visitors have just one win all season.

Away from Montilivi, their record is dire, with four draws and five losses. Their struggles on the road extend back to January, with just one victory in their last 14 away league games (D4, L9), a narrow win over relegated and bottom of the league, Real Valladolid.

For Getafe, last weekend’s away win at Bilbao ended a five-match winless streak and provides the perfect springboard heading into this fixture. The Azulones have been tough to beat at the Coliseum, losing just once on home soil this season (W1, D2), that defeat a narrow 1-0 loss to league leaders Real Madrid.

📈 Getafe v Girona Form & Stats

Getafe’s 1-0 win away at Athletic Club last weekend snapped a five-match winless spell (D2, L3) and restored belief in their top-half credentials. It also marked their best 10-game start to a La Liga campaign since 2018/19, placing them within touching distance of the European spots.

However, seeking victory remains an issue, particularly at home, where they have failed to win any of their last three matches (D2, L1). Despite conceding just once in each of those fixtures, they have struggled to turn dominance into points, with just one home victory from their last nine league outings (D2, L6).

Girona remain rooted to the foot of the table, despite showing signs of improvement. A dramatic 3-3 draw with Real Oviedo at the weekend extended their run to one defeat in five matches (W1, D3, L1), but surrendering a 97th-minute equaliser after leading late on will have felt like a crushing blow.

Away from home, Michel’s men are still searching for their first league victory of the season (D2, L2). Their only win across their last 13 La Liga trips came against a relegated Valladolid side (D4, L8), underlining the scale of their challenge here. Recent history offers some encouragement, though: both meetings last season were won by the away team, and four of the last five head-to-heads were settled by a single goal.
