Inter Milan are heavy favourites to get off to a winning start under their new manager here, priced at 1.42. Meanwhile, Torino are given odds of 7.0 to cause an upset on their travels, with the draw coming in at 4.75. Here are my two fancies for the game.

Inter Milan to Win

Torino have been a consistent mid-table side over the last few years, finishing 10th, 10th, 9th and 11th over the last four campaigns. They have played Inter Milan eight times during that stretch, losing seven games and drawing once.

In fact, Torino last took points from the San Siro back in 2018 - the head-to-head record has been dominated over the years by Inter Milan, and new manager Christian Chivu will be hoping to maintain that streak.

Chivu has been backed in the transfer window, with Nerazzurri holding onto their key talent, while adding Luis Henrique and Ange-Yoan Bonny as depth to the forward line.

Marcus Thuram to Score Anytime

With 14 goals to his name from 27 league starts last season, Marcus Thuram topped the scoring charts for Inter Milan, despite not taking any penalties. The Frenchman over-performed his xG by a total just shy of four goals, to highlight his clinical nature.

Thuram will have fond memories of playing Torino, given that he scored a hat-trick when he last faced them in Milan. Guillermo Maripan was sent off early on, and Inter were able to fully capitalise. Thuram dominated physically, scoring a 60-minute hat-trick before being subbed off with his side well in control. He had five shots in total, all from inside the box, while two of his goals were headers.

🔵 A Fresh Start at the San Siro

Inter Milan endured a heartbreaking conclusion to last season, narrowly missing out on the Scudetto to Napoli on the final day, before suffering a heavy defeat to PSG in the Champions League final. The aftermath saw Simone Inzaghi depart for Al-Hilal, paving the way for Christian Chivu to be appointed as his successor.

Chivu arrives with limited managerial experience, having overseen just 13 matches with Parma last season. However, his experience with the Nerazzurri made him the preferred option to take over as manager. During Inzaghi’s tenure, Chivu worked within Inter’s youth system, coaching the U19s and other academy sides, so he understands the philosophy of the club.

That familiarity is likely to ensure that Inter’s style of play remains relatively similar to as it was under Inzaghi. While Chivu remains somewhat of an unknown at senior level, the expectation is that he will build on the foundations of his predecessor while offering more opportunities to emerging young talents.

Baroni Taking Charge in Turin

Torino also have been busy in the managerial market, replacing Paolo Vanoli after just one season in charge. Marco Baroni has been appointed to fill the gap, having been sacked from his role at Lazio over the summer. Although he improved on Lazio’s points tally from the 23/24 campaign despite very little backing from the board, Lazio missed out on a European spot having lost to a 10-man Lecce on the final day, which proved to be the final straw.

Torino’s average of 2.21 goals per game in the Serie A last season was a league-low - fresh ideas are definitely needed in Turin. However, they have lost goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and Samuele Ricci over the summer for a combined transfer fee of £33 million. Those two featured in the most minutes for Torino last season, and were key defensive players - Torino games might just open up a bit more under their new manager.

📊 Inter Milan v Torino H2H

Inter Milan have won each of six head-to-head encounters against Torino at home by an aggregate score of 14-5.

The visitors last won at the San Siro back in 2016, but Inter received two red cards in that game.
