With four wins from four since his appointment as Italy manager, Gennaro Gattuso has lifted Gli Azzurri from a rough spot, and he will be hoping to break Italy’s World Cup curse.

The Italians have failed to qualify for the last two editions, but they are well on track to secure a playoff spot at the very least, with a first-place finish in Group I not yet off the cards either.

Over 2.5 Italy Goals

Italy have won all four of their games under their new manager, during which they have scored a total of 16 goals. Gattuso’s tenure started with a much-needed 5-0 win over Estonia, and his side were totally dominant. They managed 70% possession, registering a total of 40 shots, with 13 hitting the target - the scoreline really could have been more.

They were equally as impressive in the final third in their proceeding game against Israel, again putting five past their opponents, but defensive frailties meant the game was much closer than they would have liked, and a 91st minute goal from Sandro Tonali ticked the scorecard to 5-4. Gli Azzurri landed this bet in both games during the October international break, with three goals against Estonia and Israel again.

They will now face Moldova who sit bottom of the group with one point from six games, and a negative 22 goal difference.

Moldova GK to Make 4+ Saves

Although Moldova did register their first point on the board against Estonia last time out, they are the same side who lost 11-1 against Norway back in September. The Tricolour have failed to win any of their last nine matches in all competitions, so this game against Italy is set to be another tough test.

Dumitru Celeadnic, Andrii Kozhukhar and Christian Avram have all featured in goal for Moldova in their World Cup qualifiers so far, and they have all had plenty of work to get through. In fact, they have registered at least four saves in five of their six group stage matches so far, only failing to hit this mark against Estonia last time out.

In addition to their 11 goals, Norway also forced six saves from Avram, and four saves in a 5-0 win in the reverse fixture. In their last match against Italy, Avram landed this bet again with five saves.

📈 Moldova v Italy Form & Stats

Moldova have failed to win any of their last nine matches in all competitions. They did register their first point on the board against Estonia last time out, but this match against Italy will provide a much tougher task.

After a disappointing Nations League campaign, which saw Italy eliminated by Germany in the quarter-finals, Gli Azzurri were disappointing in their World Cup qualifying opener against Norway, losing 3-0 in Oslo. That result extended a poor run of form, and immediately dented their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 2014.

Luciano Spalletti was afforded just one more game in charge of Italy, which was a 2-0 win over Moldova, before Gennaro Gattuso was drafted in to take over. His first games as head coach came during the October international break, and Gattuso’s presence has brought an instant improvement for the national side.

Four successive wins under the new manager has all but secured a top two place, but they are still three points behind Norway, who boast a flawless record of six wins from six. The final group stage match will be a clash between Italy and Norway in Milan, which could be a cracker.
