The first of Saturday night’s two quarter-final ties at the Grand Slam of Darts will see Jermaine Wattimena lock horns with Luke Littler. Wattimena claimed top honours in Group E before going on to dramatically defeat Dimitri Van den Bergh 10-9 in the round of 16. As for Littler, he cruised through Group F with three wins from three but he had to dig deep to edge out Mike De Decker 10-9 in their last-16 tie.
Unsurprisingly, Littler is the red-hot favourite on Saturday night at 1.17. With ‘The Nuke’ unbackable at such a short price, instead look to him to average over 101.5 at 1.83 during this quarter-final clash. Averages in excess of 100 are nothing out of the norm for ‘The Nuke’. That can be attributed to the fact that Littler’s overall average for 2024 is currently a sky high 98.86, a tally topped only by Gary Anderson (99.53).
At this year’s Grand Slam of Darts, only Wessel Nijman (107.70) and Gian Van Veen (107.98) have posted a higher combined average than that of Littler (105.03) thus far. Furthermore, the teenage sensation has averaged north of 101.5 in each of his four respective outings over the last week in Wolverhampton. Last time out, Littler produced an average of 103.48 when defeating the aforementioned De Decker, firing in 10 180s along the way. In fact, no player hit more maximums than Littler (20) across the group stage and the first knockout round.
While we’re now at the stage of the tournament where games will be played over a best-of-31 leg format, Littler’s relentless scoring power and unflappable levels of composure makes an over 101.5 average from him well within range when he goes up against Wattimena.
