Leyton Orient v Stockport
Kick Off: Saturday 10th May at 12:30
Competition: League One Play-Offs
Watch Live: Sky Sports Main Event
For the first time since 2013/14, Leyton Orient have made their way into the League One Play-Offs, and somewhat unexpectedly so. This is only their second campaign back in third-tier since winning the League Two title two years ago. They confirmed their top-six position thanks to a 4-1 final day victory at Huddersfield.
Stockport are hunting down a fourth promotion in seven seasons but will have to negotiate a tricky play-off campaign this time around, having won their three promotions as league champions in League Two, the National League and the National League North. At the end of the regular season, Dave Challinor’s side were only five points behind Wrexham, who finished 2nd and achieved automatic promotion - nine points better off than 6th-placed Orient.

Each side couldn’t really be in much better form entering these play-offs. Leyton Orient are currently enjoying a six-match winning streak and are seven unbeaten overall. On the other hand, Stockport are eight without defeat, of which seven resulted in victory. Confidence will clearly be incredibly high in both camps, meaning the prospect of goals has to be considered a strong chance.
Form might be impressive for the hosts, however, there are defensive vulnerabilities the visitors might be able to expose. That is because Richie Wellens’ outfit have only returned seven out of a possible 26 clean sheets since the beginning of 2025. This indicates that they’re having to outscore their opponents.
Goals are also a natural call whenever County are involved at their current rate. During their eight-match undefeated run, they’ve netted two or more goals in all bar one. Although they’re the away side in this first leg, don’t expect them to park the bus as such to accept a draw. They’ll play to their strengths, as of course will Orient, meaning an end-to-end battle is possible.

🔍 Leyton Orient v Stockport Players to Watch
🔴 Charlie Kelman
The QPR loanee has recorded a total of 21 shots over his last six games.
The 23-year-old is far and away the greatest goal threat in the Orient ranks. Since the start of March, he has fired in 10 goals that ultimately played a huge role in getting his side to the play-offs. Only once in that 13 match sequence did he not have at least one shot on target, which was when he came on as a sub.

🔵 Kyle Wootton
Replacing Louie Barry, who departed Stockport after an impressive first half to the season, was initially challenging for the Hatters. Barry actually remains their top scorer despite leaving in January.
Wootton tops the goal charts of those remaining at the club and he has chipping in with goals of late. Not quite to the levels of Kelman, but four goals in his last eight appearances still rates as a handy return for the 28-year-old.
The striker could’ve easily netted more, as it hasn’t been for the lack of trying. Across his last 12 appearances, Wootton has had 13 shots on target in total, which is an average of just over 1.00 per match. Furthermore, the former Notts County man is averaging 2.62 shots based upon his 13 most recent games.
This is also a player with an edge to his game based upon his foul count over the campaign. He is committing just as many fouls as he is shots of late, proving he uses his physicality quite frequently. The Kidderminster-born forward has made 20 fouls over the last six matches, which works out as an average of 3.33.
➡️ Kyle Wootton - Over 0.5 Shots on Target & Over 0.5 Fouls Committed @ 1.86 on bet365 ↔️

💻 Leyton Orient v Stockport Form and Tactics
It is plain and obvious that Leyton Orient have largely built their success this season on effective attacking play. The fact that only champions Birmingham netted more goals than they did over the regulation season is quite telling. However, they’ve only ranked in 10th place in terms of league xG, which stands at 58.1, which dwarfs the 72 they’ve actually scored.
Strong in attack, yes, but not too shabby at the back either. They have shown they’re capable of putting up a strong rearguard. Only top two Birmingham and Wrexham, plus play-off side Charlton achieved more than the 18 clean sheets Orient kept. However, only three of those shutouts have been claimed since the beginning of March. Expect them to press Stockport high to try and gain some success in the first leg, as the team are ranked 3rd in the division for average possessions won in the final third per match (4.5).
Stockport also have their ways of applying pressure to the opponent. They are a side more than prepared to mix up their styles of play when they have to. This is proven by the fact they average 52.7% possession, which is in the top six for League One and yet they are in the top four for average long balls per match with 27.5. Therefore, the home side could experience issues keeping County at bay, knowing they’ll attack from all angles.
Dave Challinor’s team are similar to the opponents in that not only are they strong in attack but can be rather stubborn defensively, too. Although this is a team experiencing a five-game run of failing to keep a clean sheet, they do possess the 3rd-strongest xGA in the division, which is only bettered by Birmingham and Charlton. Averaging 10.0 successful tackles per league contest also reflects their combativeness out of possession, meaning Orient are unlikely to get too much time on the ball with little pressure against them.
