Liverpool v Fulham
📅
Kick Off: Saturday 14th December at 15:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
Liverpool’s final Anfield outing before Christmas sees them take on Fulham, with Arne Slot’s side seeking to cement their position at the top of the Premier League before the festive period really kicks in.
The Reds hold a 4-point advantage over second-placed Chelsea but crucially have a game in hand. Defensive solidarity has been their super strength, with just 11 goals conceded in their 14 matches to date.
Fulham, meanwhile, are enjoying a steady campaign. Marco Silva’s side are sitting comfortably in tenth, having been beaten just 4 times this season. They do not travel to Merseyside without hope, then.

Fulham have found it very difficult to live with the very best Premier League teams when it comes to corner kicks. Across their first 15 matches of the league season, they have only lagged behind their opponents by more than 4 corners on 3 occasions, against Manchester City, Aston Villa and Arsenal – clubs competing in the Champions League.
These teams have won a combined 25 corners against the Cottagers across the 3 fixtures, working out at 8.33 per game.
Liverpool, whose home corner count is far lower than on the road due to playing tougher fixtures to date on Merseyside – they have faced 6 of the top 8 in just 7 fixtures – will expect to win many of these situations. In the last Anfield meeting between these clubs in January, they won 8 corners to Fulham’s 2.
🟢 Liverpool v Fulham #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
Liverpool may have a formidable defensive record, particularly at Anfield, but Fulham have been relentless at finding the net this season. The Cottagers may not score a high volume of goals, but they have netted in 15 successive games and before last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal had generated 1xG or more in 10 games on the spin. Liverpool, meanwhile, have scored in 18 successive matches.
Both Liverpool and Fulham stand in the top 10 Premier League teams when it comes to winning corners. The Reds average 6.21 corners per match, with their opponents only marginally further back on 5.87. Marco Silva’s side have won at least 4 corners in 5 of their previous 7 away games, including a whopping 11 against Tottenham last time out. Arne Slot’s side have won at least 4 corners in 5-straight games are are expected to record more than their opponents here, but the Cottagers can still rack up a healthy count.
Even Liverpool, as one of the cleanest teams in the Premier League, average more than 2 cards per match this season. The Anfield side are picking up 2.21 per game on average and have earned at least 2 cards in 4 of their last 5 in all competitions. Fulham, meanwhile, are earning 2.6, with at least 2 in each of their last 4. With referee Tony Harrington averaging 4.0 cards per match this term, there’s every chance this figure could be hit.

👕 Liverpool v Fulham Predicted XI
🔍 Liverpool v Fulham Players to Watch
🔴 Cody Gakpo
Gakpo played only a cameo role against Girona in midweek, but he has held down the status of Premier League starter since the November international break and has generally impressed in those games, notably scoring against Man City.
The Dutchman has had at least 3 shots in 6 of his last 7 Liverpool starts, despite frequently being replaced around the midpoint of the second half. He should be both fresh and confident for this game.
⚪ Sasa Lukic
As one of the joint Premier League leaders when it comes to yellow cards with 6, it’s unsurprising that Lukic has a huge foul count. Last weekend’s game against Arsenal ended a 8-game streak in which he had both started and committed at least 2 fouls.
At Anfield, Lukic may find himself up against a Liverpool midfield that contains some of the Reds’ best players when it comes to drawing fouls, including Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones.
🔴 Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold loved playing Fulham last season. No.66 scored in both Premier League encounters against the Cottagers and was particularly dangerous when they met at Anfield, offering 4 shots in total. Indeed, he has mustered at least 3 shots against the London club in each of the 3 home Premier League matches he has started against this opponent.
He continues to be a prolific attacking threat for Arne Slot this term. He has had at least 2 shots in 4 of his last 6 matches, including a couple against Girona in the midweek victory.

💻 Liverpool v Fulham Form and Tactics
Arne Slot’s transition to Liverpool is proving a roaring success, with the Dutchman taking over seamlessly from Jurgen Klopp and opting only to make slight tweaks to the German’s system.
The Reds might not be quite as gung-ho as they were once going forward, yet they can still be thrilling to watch and remain excellent in transition. Averaging 2.07 goals per game, only Chelsea have a higher scoring rate than the Anfield club in the Premier League this season.
Much of this can be attributed to the excellent Mohamed Salah, who remains one of the game’s elite performers. He has scored or assisted in 13 of his last 15 Liverpool starts.
In the Premier League, the Egypt international star has more than twice as many shots on target as any of his team-mates, nearly twice as many shots, and with 13 goals is their runaway top scorer. There is a legitimate question to be asked how the Reds might fare without him, yet that is for another day: he is fit and firing for now.
Slot’s side are not all Salah, though. They post the best defensive record in the league, and even with Ibrahima Konate out with a knee problem have managed 2 clean sheets in 3. The Reds have made Anfield a fortress and have conceded only 4 home goals in their last 11.
Fulham are enjoying an exceptional season, with their total of 23 points through 15 Premier League matches the best they have managed in more than 20 years. Although consistency has been an issue for Scott Parker’s side, a 1-1 draw against Arsenal last weekend showed they can mix it with the best, even if they rode their luck a little in that game.
Scoring goals has certainly not been a problem for the Cottagers. Since the opening day of the season, when they lost 1-0 at Manchester United, they have netted in every fixture they have played in all competitions – a run that stands at 16 successive games. They have, however, conceded in 13 of these matches. With just 1 loss in 7, the visitors carry both form and confidence into this clash.
