Jurgen Klopp’s comeback kings came from behind to win for the seventh time this term when they edged out Brighton on Saturday, though the Reds could find blunting Chris Wilder’s Blades a more straightforward task.
Sheffield United have won just once in 13 attempts in the league and take the division’s worst defensive record to Merseyside where a heavy defeat could be in the offing against the Premier League’s most prolific home team.

🏆 Match stats: One-sided skirmish in the works at Anfield
With such a massive disparity between the teams, Liverpool have been priced as short as 1.06 to beat Sheffield United at Anfield and the Reds’ status as odds-on favourites has had a trickle-down effect on other markets.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasers catch the eye to cover a -1.0 goal handicap against their leaky visitors. The Blades have conceded a staggering 77 goals this term, which is already their worst GA figure in a single top-tier season since 1976.
United have shipped 17 goals in their last six Premier League assignments alone, though their 6-0 reverse to Arsenal on March 3rd could be particularly poignant ahead of their next test against a Premier League title contender.
Liverpool managed to win by two or more goals in four of their last six league fixtures at Anfield and they are worth backing to match that feat here. Taking the Reds to score over 2.5 goals on Merseyside also looks like a solid move.
Klopp’s side put four and three goals respectively past newly promoted Luton and Burnley at Anfield in February, and they are likely to be just as potent in the final third against Sheffield United this week.
Predictions:
⚽ Liverpool (-1) handicap @ 1.25
⚽ Over 2.5 Liverpool goals @ 1.33
🎯 Shooting stats: Look to Liverpool’s ranks for options
Sheffield United have been conceding more shots per game than any other Premier League outfit this season (18.1) and Blades keeper Ivo Grbic will expect to be peppered from all angles again at Anfield on Thursday.
For prime shot market options, you can really take your pick from any member of Liverpool’s three-man midfield and forward line, though Colombian winger, Luis Diaz, is one of the more attractive prospects in the 2+ shots on target range.
Diaz landed two accurate attempts against Brighton on Saturday and the 27-year-old clocked an insane ten attempts against promoted side Luton last month, three of which found their range.
Away from the favourites, Joe Gomez could be a nifty inclusion from left field to have one or more shots against the Hatters. Gomez shouldn’t have too much defensive work on his plate on Thursday and will be free to join the attack, the 26-year-old could get a sight at goal.
Interestingly, Gomez has already registered shots in games against Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton this term and he could maraud forward against a recently promoted team again here.
Argentinean midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is among the most interesting candidates to score or assist against the Blades. The 25-year-old is in the midst of an impactful spell and has claimed a goal contribution in each of his last five appearances for Liverpool.
Predictions:
⚽ Luis Diaz to have 2+ shot on target @ 1.83
🔄️⚽ Joe Gomez to have 1+ shots @ 1.30
🔄️⚽ Alexis Mac Allister to score or assist @ 1.91
🚩 Corners stats: Liverpool to rack up the corners at Anfield
Liverpool won eight corners in their comeback triumph over Brighton on Saturday to keep their averages at Anfield for the campaign high (8.07), and the Reds can be backed with confidence to win another truckload of corners against Sheffield United on Thursday evening.
When the Merseysiders last hosted a newly promoted side (Luton), they earned 13 corners – the highest figure they’ve posted in a single sitting so far this season – and Liverpool could come close to matching that tally this week.
The Reds won nine at Burnley’s expense when the Clarets visited Anfield a couple of weeks before Luton, and Liverpool racked up another 12 when they visited Bramall Lane to beat Sheffield United back in December.
Liverpool’s ability to keep the division’s minnows pinned back has already been well demonstrated this term, so back them to win at least eight corners again against the Blades.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 7.5 Liverpool corners @ 1.40
🛑 Fouls stats: Midfield looks like a fertile hunting ground
While Liverpool’s devastating attacking patterns generally write the most headlines, their mastery of the dark arts tends to go unnoticed for the most part and despite being one of the league’s most dominant teams in terms of possession, the Reds rank fourth for average fouls committed per game (12.4).
The trend continued on Saturday when Liverpool committed 20 fouls to Brighton’s 6 despite seeing more of the ball, with Luiz Diaz (5), Alexis Mac Allister (4) and Wataru Endo (3) the chief instigators.
With small tactical fouls clearly a major part of their defensive gameplan, hard-pressing and tough-tackling South American duo, Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister, look backable in the 1+ fouls committed market again.
For Sheffield United, two members of the Blades’ central midfield trio, Vinicius Souza and Gustavo Hamer appeal the most. Souza has committed at least two fouls in 13 different Premier League fixtures this season, while Hamer has done the same in ten of his 25 starts in the division.
Both players are likely to have ample opportunity to stick the boot in against their possession-hungry hosts at Anfield, so expect Souza and Hamer to draw the attention of referee Stuart Attwell at Anfield.
Predictions:
🔄️⚽ Luis Diaz to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.30
🔄️⚽ Alexis Mac Allister to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.30
⚽ Vinicius Souza to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.25
⚽ Gustavo Hamer to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.0
