Man City v Sevilla
🏆
Competition: UEFA Super Cup
⏰
Kick off: 20:00
📺
Watch live: TNT Sports
Europa League winners Sevilla and Champions League winners Manchester City face off at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece for the UEFA Super Cup tonight. Since the Champions League was Man City’s first European triumph, this will be their first appearance in the Super Cup.
Sevilla on the other hand, have played in six Super Cups prior to this one and hold the record for the most defeats in the competition (5). They have only won it once and that was back in 2006 when they beat a fantastic Barcelona side 3-0. City have fond memories from their wins over Sevilla in the group stage of the Champions League last season, but will have been rocked by the news that Kevin de Bruyne may not play again for them this year due to injury.

Man City are back in business
Man City kicked off their 2023/24 campaign in style last Friday. They beat newly promoted Burnley by three goals to nil with Erling Haaland at the centre of it as usual. The Norwegian scored in the opening five minutes before doubling his tally ahead of half time.
From his two shots on target this season, he has scored two goals, a fantastic conversion rate. We all know about the ability to sniff out goals that Haaland has and it’s one of the reasons City were able to win three trophies last season.
They look like a team on a mission and there’s no surprise that they’re heavy favourites.
Man City Team News
The standout team news coming from Pep Guardiola’s camp is that Kevin de Bruyne will not be travelling. The Belgian started for City in their Premier League opener but was forced off early in the first half as an old hamstring injury flared up. He may not return this calendar year.
De Bruyne isn’t the only City star unable to make the trip. Portuguese duo Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias will also not travel. Bernardo felt ‘some pain’ after his side’s victory over Burnley whilst Dias is still recovering from a head injury sustained in training.
Sevilla suffer late blows in slow start
Sevilla faced Valencia in their La Liga opener last Friday and it didn’t go as well as planned. It was a very even game throughout and things were looking promising for the Europa League winners. They went into the last ten minutes drawing 1-1 but conceded late on to Javi Guerra.
A red card for new signing Loic Bade with less than ten to play opened up the game for Valencia who took all three points. Sevilla managed just three shots on target and committed 15 fouls.
Sevilla Team News
Sevilla have their full squad available for the game. They have also managed to keep hold of their key men from the Europa League triumph and have added a couple of new recruits in Loic Bade and Djibril Sow for a combined €22 million.
Bade is expected to start, the Frenchman was sent off in his team’s La Liga opener last Friday but his suspension does not apply to Europe so he will be eligible to play.

🏆 Man City to lift the cup
📈
Odds: 1.15
Man City are odds on to lift the cup and it’s clear to see why. They haven’t lost a competitive game in Europe since May 2022. They were unbeaten in the UCL last season.
It’s not just about City’s class though, Sevilla always tend to struggle in the Super Cup. They hold the record for most Super Cup games lost. Their last appearance came in 2020 and was a 2-1 defeat to Bayern.
Man City have never won this trophy before and in order for them to ‘complete football’ they will need to add it to their collection.

⚽ Erling Haaland to score anytime
📈
Odds: 1.67
Erling Haaland was the top scorer in the Champions League last season with 12 goals, four more than second-placed Mohamed Salah.
Haaland broke the record for the most Premier League goals in one season last campaign with 36. He scored a total of 52 for City last season, following him was Julian Alvarez, who scored 17.
In Haaland’s last appearance v Sevilla he scored twice in a 4-0 away win. He also scored two in a game against Sevilla during his time at Borussia Dortmund, he loves a game against this opposition.

🚩 Over 8.5 corners
📈
Odds: 1.75
In Manchester City’s last two meetings with Sevilla there have been eight corners in each match. Man City having seven and Sevilla having one in both matches.
Both sides average more than 8.5 corners per game. Man City 8.81 and Sevilla 9.05.
Sevilla’s last game had nine corners with them alone having eight, whilst Man City’s last game had a total of 11 corners in a fairly even 6/5 split between each side.
🛑 Lucas Ocampos to commit 1+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.36
Lucas Ocampos is likely to start on the right hand side and will be facing off against Jack Grealish. Grealish won the most fouls of any City player in Europe last season. He was fouled 32 times, an average of 3.08 per game.
Most of Grealish’s fouls came against either the opposing winger or full back when receiving the ball. The way Sevilla are likely to set up indicates that the two will meet each other in these cases, with Jesus Navas sitting further back.
Ocampos averaged 1.16 fouls per 90 last season in all competitions. There’s many Sevilla players with more including Erik Lamela but he is unlikely to start.

🏆 Man City to lift the cup
📈
Odds: 1.15
City are a very short price to lift the Super Cup, but considering Sevilla’s pedigree in knockout football it may be worth giving the favourites some extra leeway by keeping a win on penalties or in extra time onside. Kevin de Bruyne’s absence would be felt by any side in world football and City are no different, therefore we are sticking with this shorter-priced selection for our level two bet builder.

⚽ Erling Haaland to score anytime
📈
Odds: 1.67
1.67 feels generous considering the ruthless mood that Haaland was in on the Premier League’s opening night against Burnley. Sevilla are not the watertight defensive unit they were at times under Julen Lopetegui and if City can exploit that, Haaland is the most likely to cash in.
Haaland remains hungry for more trophies at the tender of 23 and the Super Cup will not dampen that appetite.

🛑 Marcos Acuna to commit 2+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.67
Acuna looks a very shrewd bet for fouls in this match. At times it looks like the Argentinian cannot help himself and being asked questions by Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and co could bring the worst out of him. The 31-year-old is well known for his fiery temperament and the numbers certainly back it up.
Acuna averaged 1.44 fouls per 90 in all competitions last season, but that shot up to 3.1 in the Champions League. He committed five fouls in Sevilla’s 4-0 defeat to City in the group stage and lining up against Foden will do him no favours. The skilful Englishman was fouled 1.74 times per 90 in the Champions League last season and has a point to prove this season after being dropped last term.
🎯 Rodri to have 1+ shot on target
📈
Odds: 2.40
Rodri is an underrated pick for shots, he was Man City’s third ranked player for shots in the UCL last season and he averaged 1.53 per game. He also scored the winning goal in the Champions League final and should enjoy the spotlight once again.
In Rodri’s last appearance in Europe he had four shots, three of which were on target and one that went in. With the absence of de Bruyne and Silva in midfield, Rodri will push higher and attempt more shots. Potentially with more space afforded to him if Sevilla sit back and look to soak up pressure.
Rodri took three shots in the Community Shield against Arsenal.
