Man United v Chelsea
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 3rd November at 16:30
🏆
Competition: Premier League
📺
Watch Live: Sky Sports Main Event
High-flying Chelsea visit Old Trafford for what should be a fascinating tussle on Sunday, the Blues haven’t won a league game at the Theatre of Dreams since 2013, however, having claimed maximum points in three of their first four Premier League away assignments of the campaign, Chelsea will believe they can end their Manchester hoodoo.
⭐ Man United v Chelsea Best Bets
Manchester United played with more energy and freedom in their first outing post-Ten Hag in midweek, however, despite recording an emphatic 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester, they still conceded 16 attempts against a second-string Foxes side.
Despite the recent announcement of Ruben Amorim as their new manager, caretaker boss Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the match on Sunday and will call for more attacking endeavour from his side, which could leave the United defence overexposed at times again. United’s midweek victory against Leicester featured seven goals and a mammoth 39 shots and their clash with Chelsea could be similarly chaotic. Look to the goal markets for this one.

🔍 Man United v Chelsea Players to Watch
🔴 Casemiro
With Manuel Ugarte providing a defensive safety net in midfield, Casemiro had more licence to maraud forward against Leicester in midweek and the Brazilian racked up five shots and scored twice against the Foxes with his more adventurous role.
Casemiro, who has been averaging 2.56 shots and 0.79 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Premier League this term, could be given a similar remit against Chelsea, so expect him to make an impact in the final third. The 32-year-old also has a knack for getting on the end of set-piece deliveries and he represents superb value to lodge a least one shot on target on Sunday.
🔴 Manuel Ugarte
Manuel Ugarte showcased his ball-winning and combative attributes against Leicester in midweek when he made four tackles and committed one foul in United’s meaty triumph over the Foxes, and the no-nonsense Uruguayan should have another chance to show off his steely qualities again on Sunday.
Ugarte was seldom used by Erik ten Hag in the Premier League before the Dutchman’s dismissal, however, he has still managed to rack up 3.33 fouls per 90 in the division. The 23-year-old is capable of lodging another lofty set of defensive numbers against Chelsea, so back Ugarte to give at least another two free kicks away.
🔵 Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer has already been fouled a bone-bruising 21 times in the Premier League this season, making him Chelsea’s most-kicked player by a considerable wedge and the Manchester-born attacking midfielder could come in for more rough treatment on hometown return on Sunday.
Palmer is one of the Premier League’s most potent match-winners, so it’s no surprise to see him targeted so often, indeed, only three players (Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon & James Maddison) in the division have been fouled more often than the Chelsea star this season. The 22-year-old has been drawing 2.44 fouls per 90 minutes since August, so look for him to be fouled a least twice again at Old Trafford.

💻 Man United v Chelsea Form and Tactics
Manchester United were performing poorly across the board under Erik ten Hag and the Dutchman’s sacking was long overdue. United were averaging just 1.22 points and 0.88 goals per game in the Premier League before Ten Hag’s departure which is close to relegation-standard form, and it will be interesting to see how they perform on Sunday under fresh direction.
Temporary custodian Ruud van Nistelrooy stuck with ex-boss Ten Hag’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation against Leicester in midweek, though he called for a more attacking, entertaining impetus pre-match and his players delivered in an exciting 5-2 victory over the Foxes.
United poured forward against Leicester and mustered 23 attempts, though their commitment to attack left them vulnerable on turnovers and a weakened City side had 16 shots of their own, drawing five saves from home keeper Altay Bayindir.
A similar philosophy against a much stronger Chelsea team is likely to lead to another frenetic, end-to-end clash at Old Trafford. The Blues are firmly in the top-four picture having won five of their first nine league matches of the campaign, while only leaders Man City (20) have plundered more goals than Enzo Maresca’s troops (19) so far.
Despite their excellent goal haul, Chelsea rank all the down in 11th position for average shots per 90 (13.78), though they sit 3rd for non-penalty xGF (16.2), which suggests they have been calculated in the final third and have been choosing the right times to let fly.
With Jadon Sancho unable to face his parent club, Chelsea could line up with a front four of Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson in Manchester. That quartet had nine shots between them in the Blues’ win over Newcastle last weekend and they have the tools to trouble United on Sunday.
