Lille travel to La Beaujoire Stadium on Sunday night to face an out-of-sorts Nantes side who have won just one of their seven matches this term. Following a complete squad overhaul over the summer, it has been an inconsistent start for Lille, but they will hope to build on a couple of positive results before the international break, eyeing up a push into the top six.

Lille Double Chance

Ethan Mbappe was the hero for Lille last time out, as his late strike in the 85th minute trickled in to ensure Lille took a point off PSG. That was just the second time all season that the Parisians have dropped points. Prior to that, Lille pulled off another impressive win at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma in the Europa League.

After Hakon Amar Haraldsson scored in the sixth minute, the visitors were able to resist the Roman onslaught and secure maximum points. That result made it six points from six to kick off their European campaign, putting Lille in a strong position to secure automatic qualification to the knockout stages.

For all their personnel changes, Lille have looked strong in the final third. Only Monaco and Marseille have scored more goals than Les Dogues, who rank top in Ligue 1 for xG generated.

Lille to have 5+ Shots on Target

Meanwhile, Nantes are at the complete opposite end of that table, as their tally of 5.3 xG after seven league matches is the lowest in the division. Given that they find it difficult to progress the ball upfield and fashion meaningful chances, Nantes have often found themselves penned into their own half at times, having to survive wave after wave of opposition attacks.

In fact, Les Canaries have conceded the most shots in the league this season, and the 3rd-most shots on target. Anthony Lopes has been kept busy, averaging 4.14 saves per game - only Herve Koffi of Angers has made more saves than the Portuguese international this term.

Losing their starting centre back pairing of Nathan Zeze and Jean-Charles Castelletto over the summer transfer window, as well as midfield stalwart Pedro Chirivella, has had a real impact on Nantes, who have regressed significantly in defensive areas.

Romain Perraud to have 1+ Shots

I'm expecting Lille to have the lion's share of possession in this match, and Perraud might be able to advance into promising forward positions. The 28-year-old does often look to progress up the field with an eye for goal.

Perraud registered a total of seven shots from the first four Ligue 1 games this season - including three efforts against Toulouse, and two attempts in a tough matchup against Monaco. The Frenchman got on the scoresheet against Lorient as well, to highlight his attacking involvement. Perraud then picked up an injury against Lens, but was able to return just before the international break, and should be in line to start this weekend.

From his five starts for Lille this season, Perraud has only failed to hit this mark once, and it was against PSG. Nantes should offer up plenty more chances than the Parisians, making this an ideal matchup to target Perraud.

Matthis Abline to Commit 1+ Fouls

After rupturing his ACL this time last year, Tiago Santos made his return for Lille just before the international break. He started the game against Brann in the Europa League, during which he won five fouls, while also drawing six fouls in the following game against Lyon.

The Portugal international did miss the next two games for Lille, but there is a chance he is able to reclaim his starting spot at right back, given that he has had enough time to build his fitness back up. That would be an ideal matchup to target Matthis Abline fouls.

Abline has registered a foul in all seven matches this season for Nantes, including appearances off the bench. In fact, he has recorded multiple fouls in three of the four games he has started. Lille rank 4th in the French top-flight for total fouls drawn this campaign, and Tiago Santos starting would be a massive bonus for this selection.

📈 Nantes v Lille Form & Tactics

With just one win from their opening seven matches to kick off the campaign, Nantes find themselves in 15th, dancing dangerously close to the relegation zone. Their only victory came against Auxerre - a team who sit below Nantes having lost five of their opening seven matches.

Les Canaries were able to hold on to a 0-0 draw against Brest before the international break, as Anthony Lopes put in a Player of the Match performance. The Portuguese shot-stopper made five saves to keep his clean sheet intact. Nantes were only able to generate 0.15 xG from six shots, highlighting their struggles in the final third this term. In fact, only Angers have scored less goals in Ligue 1.

Lille’s record of three wins, two draws and two losses is a lot more positive, but they currently sit outside of the European spots, so they definitely have work to do. However, they have had some tough matchups against Monaco, PSG, Lens and Lyon already this season - four teams who sit above Lille in the standings, so Les Dogues will be looking forward to this easier matchup against Nantes.

With an average of 3.43 goals per game in the league this season, only Monaco, Lorient and Paris FC have provided more entertainment than Lille.

📔 Nantes v Lille Formation & Team News

Following an injury to Tylel Tait, Junior Mwanga had to fill in at centre back against Brest, out of his more natural position in midfield. Francis Coquelin and Johann Lepenant are also ruled out of this clash, meaning Hyeok-kyu Kwon is set to make just his third start for Nantes in a defensive midfield role.

19-year-old Louis Leroux has started at left back for the last couple games, but he could feature in midfield this weekend with so many key players out in that position for Nantes. Regular left back Fabien Centoze is yet to start this season as he recovers from a shoulder injury, but should be nearing a return, and Nicolas Cozza is set to start in his absence.

There are no fresh injury concerns for Lille - Ousmane Toure is ruled out with an ACL injury, while Alexsandro Ribeiro was taken off at half time against Toulouse with a thigh injury, which will keep him sidelined for another few weeks. Based on that, we likely see a similar lineup to the one that drew against PSG before the international break.
