Napoli v Roma
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 24th November at 17:00
🏆
Competition: Serie A
📺
Watch Live: TNT Sports 2
Following the termination of Ivan Juric’s short stint at the club, Claudio Ranieri’s first match back at the helm will certainly be a tricky test in Naples. It’s been a hellish start for the Giallorossi who are faced with the prospect of failing to record four wins in their first 13 games for the first time since the 1970s.
It’s been quite the opposite for Napoli who sit top of the league although their six-point lead has shrunk to just one following defeat to Atalanta and a 1-1 statement with Inter most recently.
⭐ Napoli v Roma Best Bet
Di Lorenzo has been Napoli’s most frequent offender this season, and his average of 1.83 fouls per 90 implies that he’s been priced very generously to commit two or more fouls.
The full back has committed at least two fouls in eight of his 12 league appearances, playing the full 90 minutes in all of them.
With Roma drawing 12.9 fouls per game and the referee awarding an average of 27.70, this looks like fantastic value.

🔍 Napoli v Roma Players to Watch
🟠 Stephan El Shaarawy
The Roma veteran has had limited game-time this season due to injury issues but showed he’s returning to form with a brace in his last outing against Bologna.
Despite only making five appearances of over an hour, he has recorded at least two shots in each of those games, with that number climbing to four in his most recent match.
El Shaarawy has averaged 2.60 shots per 90 this season, despite playing in a comparatively more defensive wing-back role. With Ranieri returning for one final managerial stint, Roma are likely to shift to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-1-2 formation, potentially allowing El Shaarawy to operate in a more advanced position.
🟠 Angelino
Although naturally a left-back, Angelino has spent most of this season playing as a central defender, a role in which he has occasionally struggled.
He has committed at least one foul in eight of his 11 league appearances (45+ minutes) and in each of his last four matches across all competitions.
He’ll come up against both Romelu Lukaku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with the prior averaging 2.10 fouls per 90 and the latter 1.49.

💻 Napoli v Roma Form and Tactics
Having started the season off operating with a customary Antonio Conté 3-4-3, Napoli now look settled in their 4-3-3, although rotations between the two formations are as frequent as they are unpredictable.
His side look well drilled both in and out of possession, seemingly capable of controlling matches while maintaining a minority of the ball.
That said, this degree of confidence was missing last time round when they edged out a 1-1 draw with Inter despite creating just 0.59 xG to Inter’s 1.53.
Previous to that they were torn apart by Atalanta, so it remains to be seen whether they can get back on track with a win against struggling Roma.
The travelling side’s lineup is tough to predict with Ranieri taking charge of his first game.
The Italian manager tends to prefer a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-1-2 and while Roma do have the players to facilitate this change, it could take them a while to adapt from their 3-4-3.
One thing that’s unlikely to change will be Roma’s dominance of possession which we expect them to maintain although perhaps with a greater hesitancy to commit men forward.
This could be beneficial for the Giallorossi who have already conceded 17 goals this season, almost double Napoli’s nine.
🏁 Napoli v Roma Ref Watch
- Referee – Davide Massa
- One notable feature of Davide Massa’s refereeing has been the huge disparity between his conduct in domestic v international matches.
- Over the course of his career, he’s awarded an average of 28.89 fouls per 90 in Serie A with that falling slightly to 27.60 this season.
- He tends to be just as liberal in his card distribution averaging 4.75 per 90 in Serie A and 5.00 this season.
