His marauding runs down the wing are also an effective weapon for Inter Milan, with the flying Dutchman posting an average of 0.88 shots per game during the most recent Serie A season. With all that in mind, Dumfries merits support to attempt a solitary shot on goal during this capital clash.

Hakan Calhanoglu will return from suspension to lead his country into battle on Saturday night. The Crescent Stars captain had to serve a one-match suspension against Austria after collecting two yellow cards during the group phase.

That pair of cautions coincided with Calhanoglu committing an average of 1.67 fouls per game during the group stage of Euro 2024. Calhanoglu was also a regular on the referee’s radar during the most recent Serie A season, where he averaged 1.47 fouls per 90 minutes.

What’s more, the Turkish skipper was also booked nine times across all competitions for the Nerazzurri last term, further highlighting his habit for sticking the boot in. Therefore, siding with a minimum of one Calhanoglu foul in a game of this importance makes plenty of sense.

One man who will be tasked with keeping tabs on the above-mentioned Baris Yilmaz is Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch centre-back has been uncharacteristically prolific on the foul front at Euro 2024, giving away an average of 2.5 fouls per game. In fact, van Dijk’s tally of 10 fouls committed is the joint-highest in the tournament ahead of the quarter-final stage.

With van Dijk likely to get drawn into a physical battle with Turkey’s Baris Yilmaz, the Oranje skipper looks a strong contender for another foul in this quarter-final clash.

While Turkey have exceeded expectations by reaching the quarter-final stage of Euro 2024, their defensive performances have left a lot to be desired at times. The Crescent Stars have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their four outings thus far, not to mention they have only managed to silence their opponents in three of their last 10 competitive fixtures. While the Galatasaray forward has failed to score during Turkey’s run to the last eight, it’s not been for the want of trying. The 24-year old had a golden opportunity to kill off Austria in the dying embers of the game only to be denied by goalkeeper Patrick Pentz.

However, that means Yilmaz has registered at least one on-target effort in three of his four outings at Euro 2024 so far, including one in each of his last three appearances.

Given that the Netherlands have given up an average of 4.25 shots on target per game at Euro 2024, backing the man that will be leading the line for Turkey to hit the target just once holds plenty of appeal.

Turkey have been the most ill-disciplined team at Euro 2024 so far and Hakan Calhanoglu has been their chief protagonist on the fouls front. The Turkish playmaker averaged 1.67 fouls per 90 across his three Group F appearances.

Picking up two yellow cards along the way meant Calhanoglu was ruled out of his nation’s round of 16 tie with Austria. Calhanoglu committed exactly two fouls in each of Turkey’s opening two games of Euro 2024 before committing a solitary offence during a bad-tempered 2-1 win over the Czech Republic.

The Inter Milan maestro was also a regular offender during the most recent Serie A season, committing multiple fouls in 11 of his 32 appearances. With so much riding on this game for both nations, Calhanoglu looks a great value option to give away another couple of free kicks.
