📂 Newcastle v Burnley Cheat Sheet
📈 Newcastle v Burnley Form & Stats
Newcastle were left frustrated against Tottenham on Tuesday night, as a last-gasp overhead kick from Cristian Romero somehow found its way into the back of the net, ensuring the Magpies would only leave with a point. Newcastle were much the better side, but they squandered the lead twice in front of their home support. They will hope to return to winning ways at the weekend.
With five wins, four draws and five losses, Newcastle have really lacked consistency this season, and they are currently battling in the bottom half of the Premier League standings. The Magpies have fared slightly better in the Champions League, though, and are just one point adrift of the automatic qualification spots.
Meanwhile, it was another disappointing outing at Turf Moor for Burnley, as they were narrowly edged out by Crystal Palace. Daniel Munoz got on the end of a deep cross to open the scoring, and the visitors sat deep in the second half. Despite seeing the lions’ share of possession, the Clarets mustered up just 0.88xG.
Scott Parker has received criticism for his passive tactical approach to games, as Burnley rank rock bottom of the Premier League for total xG created - they have been fortunate to have scored 15 goals from just 9.5xG.
📔 Newcastle v Burnley Formation & Team News
Both Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon were on the scoresheet midweek, despite only appearing from the bench. The Brazilian should be set for an instant recall to the starting lineup in place of Sandro Tonali, but Gordon might find it tougher to break back in, given how Harvey Barnes has been in impressive form.
Sven Botman has missed out recently due to a back injury, so Dan Burn is set to partner Malick Thiaw at the back once again.
Parker opted for a slightly different formation midweek, as Lyle Foster and Zian Flemming featured in striker partnership. Jaidon Anthony returned to the starting eleven on the left wing, with Loum Tchaouna on the opposite flank.
Burnley haven’t opted for much rotation this season, so are likely to stick with a similar 11 to that which lost against Crystal Palace, meaning Lesley Ugochukwu should watch on from the bench once more.
