📈 Burnley v Newcastle Form & Stats

Newcastle were pegged back by Patrick Dorgu last time out, as his goal after 24 minutes proved decisive. The Magpies dominated proceedings at Old Trafford and had the lion’s share of possession, but were unable to make it count, and they failed to score for their second successive away game.

Eddie Howe deserves some sympathy for the extensive list of injuries he currently has to contend with, but with just two wins from their 12 away games in all competitions this season, Newcastle simply haven’t been good enough on their travels.

It has been a similar story for Burnley this season, who currently find themselves in the relegation zone, six points adrift of safety. Since securing back-to-back league wins in October, it has been downhill since then for the Clarets, who suffered seven consecutive defeats. However, in recent weeks, they have shown character to pick up two points, battling to draw their last two games.

One of those points came against an out-of-sorts Bournemouth side, and the other was against Everton, who were massively depleted in forward areas. Still, Burnley will hope they can use these positive results to build a bit of momentum as they hope to recover their season and avoid the drop.

📔 Burnley v Newcastle Formation & Team News

Lucas Pires and Kyle Walker should continue to provide width as wingbacks, while Zian Flemming could lead the line over Armando Broja here, after the Albanian was relatively ineffective against his former club at the weekend. With Maxime Esteve and Joe Worrall nursing small injuries, Bashir Humphreys made his first Premier League start of the season at the weekend, but he looked assured at the back and could keep his spot.

With Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento out with injury, 19-year-old Lewis Miley has deputised at right back in recent weeks, and performed incredibly well as credit to the youngster. Joelinton was fit enough to feature from the bench against Man United, and could start against Burnley. Yoane Wissa will also hope to displace Nick Woltemade up front - the DR Congo forward has started just one game for Newcastle, but managed to get on the scoresheet against Fulham in the EFL Cup.
