🎯 Gian van Veen to Reach the Quarter-Finals
🎯 Dimitri van den Bergh to Reach the Quarter-Finals
Chris Dobey to Win the 3rd Quarter
Look to Chris Dobey to come through the 3rd quarter of the draw. Quarter 3 favourite Michael Smith is hard to fancy at unattractive odds given his up and down form this year, making Dobey the more appealing prospect to progress.
‘Hollywood’ should ease himself into the tournament with a win over either Stephen Burton or Alexander Merkx. If the market plays out to expectations, Dobey would then face a tricky test against Josh Rock, however his big stage experience could give him the edge against the young Northern Irishman. Thereafter, the aforementioned Smith would lie in wait.
While ‘Bully Boy’ would likely be the bookmakers’ favourite, he would be difficult to trust given how inconsistent he has been this season. In contrast, Dobey has been one of the most impressive players on the tour this year. The 34-year-old would also draw confidence from the fact that he saw off Smith with a stunning 4-0 victory at the same stage of the competition just 12 months ago.
Should ‘Hollywood’ make it to back-to-back quarter-finals at this year’s World Darts Championship, he could come up against Gerwyn Price or Jonny Clayton. While neither of those potential opponents would be straightforward to get past, the 2024 form book would favour Dobey.
Gian van Veen To Reach the Quarter-Finals
Gian van Veen looks well placed to ruffle some feathers at the Alexandra Palace. Following a breakthrough year on the PDC tour, the Dutchman looks destined for future stardom. He has enjoyed a particularly strong end to 2024, most recently lifting the World Youth Championship title. In the days leading up to that triumph, van Veen took this year’s Grand Slam of Darts by storm. ‘The Giant’ averaged a massive 108.89 during the group phase before posting an average of 106.45 in his round of 16 10-2 rout of Ryan Joyce.
Having convincingly qualified for the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam, van Veen warrants support to make the last eight at this year’s World Darts Championship. While potential ties with the likes of Ricardo Pietreczko, Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall would be fraught with danger, neither of the aforementioned trio would be feeling relaxed about the prospect of running into van Veen.
The Dutchman’s seasonal average of 94.64 isn’t to be sniffed at, not to mention he has hit more maximums this year than any of the three above arrowsmiths that he could come up against. Thus, ‘The Giant’ looks more than capable of continuing his rise to the top by reaching the last eight at the Ally Pally.
Dimitri van den Bergh to Reach the Quarter-Finals
Dimitri van den Bergh’s quiet efficiency often flies under the radar and that makes him an attractive option to forge a path into the quarter-final stage. The ’Dream Maker’ underlined his status as one of the best players on the planet by storming to big-stage glory at the UK Open earlier this year. He has since reached the last eight of the 2024 World Matchplay, while he formed part of the final four at the World Darts Championships only two years ago.
Housed in the bottom half of quarter 4, a quarter-final berth looks well within range for Belgium’s number one. While the likes of Martin Schindler and Dave Chisnall are more than capable of posing van den Bergh one or two problems, the Belgian is a steady operator. On top of this, the world no. 11 has the required major stage experience and nous to navigate his way to the quarter-final stage.

World Darts Championship 2025 Outright Winner
🏆 Chris Dobey to Win the World Darts Championship
📈 Odds: 41.0
Chris Dobey is more than capable of upstaging the usual suspects at the top of the market by making a deep run at the Alexandra Palace this year. ‘Hollywood’ has performed to a very high standard throughout 2024. He has scooped three Players Championship titles this year, the most recent of which was in Wigan at the start of October.
Dobey’s performances this season are made all the more impressive by the fact that he has averaged a massive 97.18. Only Gary Anderson, Luke Humphries and Luke Littler have posted a higher seasonal average across 2024. Throw in the fact that Dobey ranks ninth for the amount of 180s thrown this calendar year, then he looks well placed to make a splash at this year’s showpiece.
The Bedlington-born arrowsmith has reached the quarter-final stage of the World Darts Championship in each of the last two years. He has bounced back admirably from last year’s bruising defeat to Rob Cross in the last eight, losing 5-4 after leading 4-0, and he will be determined to right those wrongs this time around. Dobey would appear to have landed on the softer side of the draw, evidenced by the fact that he is the bookmakers’ 2nd favourite behind Michael Smith to come through quarter 3.
However, Smith’s form has been far from formidable in 2024, so there is plenty of scope for Dobey to reach the semi-final stage at the very least. At that juncture, ‘Hollywood’ is guaranteed to avoid a clash with either Luke Humphries or Luke Littler, and that only adds to the appeal of siding with him to go the distance.
🏆 Gian van Veen to Win the World Darts Championship
📈 Odds: 41.0
Fresh off the back of his World Youth Championship triumph, Gian van Veen wil fancy his chances of outperforming his lofty odds at the Alexandra Palace. ‘The Giant’ has made eye-catching strides on the PDC circuit this season, moving up into the top 32 in the world in the process. He has already proven that he is more than capable of holding his own when toeing the oche with the games’ elite.
Van Veen put in a string of impressive performances at last month’s Grand Slam of Darts. He topped his group with three wins from three before brilliantly dismantling Ryan Joyce 10-2 in the round of 16. The 22-year-old then pushed Gary Anderson all the way in a 16-14 defeat to bow out at the quarter-final stage.
Being housed in the same quarter of the draw as pre-tournament favourite Luke Littler is clearly a disadvantage, but van Veen doesn’t deserve to be dismissed. It’s difficult to detect any real weaknesses in the young Dutchman’s game. He is known for being a heavy-scorer and serial 180-hitter and that should stand him in good stead to make a deep run in what will be just his second-ever appearance on the world stage.
🏆 Dimitri van den Bergh to Win the World Darts Championship
📈 Odds: 101.0
Dimitri van den Bergh catches the eye at bulbous quotes of 101.0 for World Darts Championship glory. On tournament knowhow alone, the Belgian no. 1 is capable of an extended run at this year’s annual festive extravaganza.
The ‘Dream Maker’ bagged his second PDC major title with a dramatic 11-10 victory over Luke Humphries at the UK Open earlier this year. He has also reached the latter stages of both the Masters and the World Matchplay this season, further highlighting his knack for prolonging his stay in TV majors.
While van den Bergh slumped to a shock early exit at last year’s World Darts Championships, he has shown in the past that he can produce his best form at the Alexandra Palace. In fact, it was just two years ago that the Belgian ace broke new ground by reaching the semi-final stage of this event.
A place in quarter 4 of the draw only adds further fuel to the fire for van den Bergh to progress to the latter stages. He would likely start as favourite against the majority of the seeded players that he could potentially come up against during the early rounds of the competition, not to mention he wouldn’t cross paths with any of the current market leaders in the outright betting until the quarter-final stage at the earliest. Thus, the Belgian star merits support at a bold price to go all the way.
