Strasbourg travel to the Parc Des Princes to take on a significantly weakened PSG team, which is still expected to be without Dembele and Doue. The visitors have started the season well, with five wins and two losses from their opening seven matches of the campaign.

PSG v Strasbourg Best Bet

Fixtures for: Friday 17th October

PSG v Strasbourg

Ligue 1

19:45

Over 2.5 Goals

PSG have been blunted in recent weeks with injuries to their electric front three of Kvaratskhelia, Dembele and Doue, leaving Luis Enrique to call up some of the younger members of the squad. That being said, PSG are facing up against a Strasbourg side that regularly see high goal tallies, and will take the game to a weakened PSG side.

Strasbourg have seen over 2.5 goals in four of their last five matches, the exception being a 1-0 win over Le Havre, who sat in a low block for most of the match - which won't be PSG's plan here.

Over 2.5 goals landed in both league meetings between these sides last season. Strasbourg managed to score twice in both games, highlighting the attacking threat that they will carry here. Four of the last five head-to-head clashes between the sides have seen over 2.5 goals, too.

📈 PSG v Strasbourg Form & Stats

I don’t think Liam Rosenior gets enough credit for the work he’s doing at Strasbourg. It’s easy to lump in the Ligue 1 side as Chelsea’s feeder club, but the former Hull City boss is doing superbly with the youngest crop of players in the league, many of them in pathways to clubs like Chelsea or a high sell on price.

Strasbourg have won five of their seven matches in Ligue 1 so far this season, and also started well in the Conference League with an away win over Slovan Bratislava.

When you have a squad as young as Strasbourg do, there are always going to be issues with petulance and game management. Squads like these tend to play in spells during the game and can never really find consistency, as they are missing key senior players.

Luis Enrique is facing his toughest period as PSG boss so far, with recent disappointing results against Marseille, Barcelona and Lille. These are all top sides and PSG are missing key players in attack and the middle of the park, which makes Enrique’s challenge a lot more difficult than usual.

The headlines will be about PSG missing Dembele, Doue and possibly Kvaratskhelia from their attack in this fixture, but I actually think the biggest miss in the side is Joao Neves. When he isn’t in the starting 11, PSG lack a bit of tenacity in the middle of the park - he’s essential for their counter pressing set up and it’s always notable when he doesn’t feature.
