Arsenal head to the Netherlands on Tuesday to face PSV in what is effectively a dead rubber. However, this match presents Mikel Arteta with the opportunity to rotate his starting XI, while PSV will be hoping for revenge after losing 4-0 in North London.
With a key Premier League fixture five days after this Champions League match against Brighton, while PSV head to third place Alkmaar, it’s difficult to know which players are going to miss out.
Despite this, momentum is key heading into the busy Festive period and both sides will be hoping for a positive result on Tuesday evening. If Arsenal win and top Group B with 15 points, Arteta’s side will have sent out a statement to the other teams who have made the knockout stage.

⚽ Match stats: Redemption for hosts
Although hammered in North London, PSV are unbeaten at home in the Champions League, while they’ve only lost two of their last 25 matches in front of their own fans. Those matches were friendlies, too, showing their dominance in competitive fixtures.
Arsenal, who have been so dominant at home, can’t share the same story when it comes to their travels. In the last ten matches, they’ve lost four matches in all competitions, which included a 2-1 defeat to Lens in Group B.
With a congested fixture list on the horizon for Arteta’s side, we’ll be witnessing plenty of changes, which hands the advantage to the hosts. It’ll be a shock if PSV are embarrassed once again, especially at the Philips Stadion where they have been so strong in 2023.
The only negative for PSV is the absence of Hirving Lozano who is suspended, but Malik Tillman and Johan Bakayoko offer pace and threats on the wings in place of the former Napoli player.
Predictions:
🏆 PSV Draw No Bet @ 1.80
🏆 PSV Double Chance @ 1.44
🎯 Shooting stats: Calling Eddie
With Arsenal expected to rotate, it’s likely Arteta will start Eddie Nketiah and allow his young striker to lead the line on Tuesday.
Since the 24-year-old’s hat-trick against Sheffield United in the Premier League, his minutes have been fairly limited, with the club hinting at a January exit. With this match effectively a dead rubber, this provides Arsenal the opportunity to put their striker in the shop window, as well as give him a platform to showcase what he can do.
Nketiah’s services haven’t been required as much as last season, but has shown glimpses as to why a club should take a chance on him during the transfer window. Having scored more goals this year than last campaign, there’s still enough confidence in him to prove a hassle to PSV’s defence.
If you’re wanting to keep your bet builder focused heavily around the hosts, there’s only one man to turn to. Luuk de Jong, who has fired home 10 league goals in 15 matches, as well as two in the Champions League – he is certainly PSV’s target man.
The 33-year-old may not be as mobile as he once was, but his height and strength will cause issues to Arsenal’s backline. The captain may not last the entire 90 minutes, but he’ll likely create a few chances for himself against a rotated Arsenal defence.
Predictions:
🎯 Eddie Nketiah to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.50
🎯 Luuk de Jongto have 1+ shots on target @ 1.40
🚩 Corners stats: PSV – The Kings of the corners
At home, PSV are not only dominant with their results, but they also rack up their corners due to their 4-3-3 formation.
Using the pace of Tillman and Bakayoko, the Dutch club likes to spread the play out wide and look for the height of de Jong in the box as they pin opponents back.
In recent home matches, PSV won 11 corners against Heerenveen in a recent 2-0 victory, before winning 12 against Zwolle in a 4-0 win back in November. The message seems to be clear to continue pressing and not letting up, even if ahead.
Arsenal, although a few negative results on the road of late, also enjoy using their pace on the wings. Despite only winning three corners against Aston Villa, eight against Luton and Brentford respectively, as well as 11 against Newcastle shows the corner count is expected to be high in the Netherlands on Tuesday.
Predictions:
🚩 Over 9.5 match corners @ 1.80
🚩 PSV over 4.5 match corners @ 1.80
