Real Madrid v Dortmund
Kick Off: Saturday 5th July at 21:00
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
Real Madrid continued their steady development under Xabi Alonso with a 1-0 win over Juventus in the round of 16, a win brought about by a clever tactical switch by the manager at half time which allowed Madrid to make the most of their general dominance in the game.
Dortmund battled past Monterrey to reach the last 16 after finishing top of their group which contained Mamelodi Sundowns, Ulsan HD, and Fluminense so it’s fair to say that Dortmund haven’t really been tested in the competition so far.

⭐ Real Madrid v Dortmund Best Bets
Guirassy has been a top performer at the Club World Cup for Dortmund so far with three goals across his four appearances in the competition. Guirassy has had 17 shots across these games (4.41 per 90) with 10 of these attempts finding the target (2.59 per 90) - an impressive 58% of his total efforts at the Club World Cup have been on target.
Guirassy netted 21 goals across his 30 Bundesliga appearances during the 24/25 campaign whilst averaging 1.28 shots on target per 90. Guirassy also scored 13 goals across his 14 appearances in the Champions League whilst averaging 2.16 shots on target per 90. These records show that Guirassy can consistently find the target for this Dortmund side and shouldn’t have too many issues in receiving decent service from his teammates.
These sides faced off in the league phase of the Champions League back in October with Real Madrid running out 5-2 winners on that occasion. Guirassy had a shot on target in that game with Dortmund having seven attempts on target overall.
👕 Real Madrid v Dortmund Predicted XI

🔍 Real Madrid v Dortmund Players to Watch
⚪ Vinicius Jr
Vinicius Jr has an excellent personal record against Dortmund which is best displayed through his performance against them in the league phase of the Champions League in their most recent head-to-head meetings.
Vinicius Jr netted a hat trick on that occasion, he also scored against Dortmund in the Champions League final in June 2024. Vinicius Jr can continue his strong personal record against Dortmund in this quarter-final. He’s provided two goal contributions at the Club World Cup so far (1 goal, 1 assist).
⚪ Dean Huijsen
Huijsen has slotted in seamlessly to the Real Madrid backline and has won four fouls across his four appearances at the Club World Cup so far (1.00 per 90). Huijsen is playing as part of a back three for Madrid at the moment so he is given licence to step into more advanced areas of the pitch, which increases his chances of being fouled here.
Dortmund have been playing with three central midfielders in a 3-5-2 system at the Club World Cup so there should be plenty of bodies standing in his way which can result in Huijsen being hauled down at least once here.

💻 Real Madrid v Dortmund Form and Tactics
The early stages of Xabi Alonso’s tenure have been really intriguing. He’s experimented with a 3-5-2 set up at the Club World Cup but also showed that he is adaptable to the needs of a game, switching to a back four in the second half against Juventus which ultimately secured Real Madrid’s progression to the quarter-finals. Trent Alexander-Arnold registered his first assist for Real Madrid in that game with his cross finding the head of Gonzalo Garcia.
Arda Guler has also been getting more game time under Xabi Alonso but a player who looks a little lost at the moment is Jude Bellingham, although his role in the midfield three in this 3-5-2 shape is quite suited to his strengths so we should see him settle the more familiar he becomes with his role and what Alonso wants from him in the side. Madrid are unbeaten at the Club World Cup with three wins from their four games in the competition.
Dortmund had quite a straightforward group which they managed to top and also had a pretty fortunate round of 16 tie against Monterrey which they won 2-1 thanks to a brace from their main source of goals - Serhou Guirassy. Dortmund have improved massively since the turn of the year under Niko Kovac but the quarter-finals may be their ceiling here, just like it was in the Champions League where they were knocked out at this stage by Barcelona in a thrilling tie.
