Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips
2:30PM Albany Stakes: Matrika tipped to defy naysayers
🏇
Matrika
📈
Odds: 9.0
First up for Day 4 of our Royal Ascot tips, MATRIKA defied weak market support and a tardy beginning to get off the mark at the first time of asking for Aidan O’Brien. The sister to the 1m1f-1m2f Grade 3 winner in Japan was soon travelling strongly, learning on the job. She swept into the lead at the furlong pole and idled towards the line. Her trainer noted she is quite lazy at home and should have plenty of improvement to come, in what is likely to prove a tricky race to assess, with numerous unexposed individuals.
🏇
Gushing Gold
📈
Odds: 15.0
GUSHING GOLD is next up for our Royal Ascot tips and could be one to keep on side on at a huge each-way price. She made an eye-catching debut, when running on strongly to claim second in a Leicester maiden, despite interference three furlongs from home. Representing the Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy combination, it would be unwise to write her off.

3:05PM Commonwealth Cup: Sakheer fits the bill for Commonwealth Cup glory
🏇
Sakheer
📈
Odds: 5.50
The Group 1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket is often a key trial for this top sprint event at Royal Ascot. Indeed, two of the previous four winners had run in the aforementioned event, prior to success in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup (Advertise, 2019 and Perfect Power, 2022). SAKHEER fits the bill perfectly, having travelled beautifully into the first Classic of the season, before emptying late on.
He looks a classy sprinter, who has the requisite gears to make a huge impact at the Berkshire venue, especially with ground conditions on the quick side of good. Noble Style has an almost identical profile and would hold serious claims if lining up, so don’t dismiss his chance at attractive odds. The Godolphin-owned individual finished ahead of the selection at Newmarket and is another who appears to be all about speed.
🏇
Lezoo
📈
Odds: 9.0
Next up for our Royal Ascot tips is three-time 6f winner, LEZOO. Her wins, including a course and distance success, rate one of the major hopes under suitable conditions. She didn’t stay the trip in the Qipco 1000 Guineas over a mile at Newmarket and should relish a strongly run affair back over 6f.

Sakheer to win

Lezoo E/W
3:40PM Duke of Edinburgh Stakes: Al Nafir looking to repeat Newmarket success
🏇
Al Nafir
📈
Odds: 6.0
Two towards the head of this high-quality handicap look the way to go. AL NAFIR is a son of Dubawi who hasn’t been seen since a first career victory at Newmarket last October. That success came on third handicap start on good ground over this journey. The form of that hot handicap is working out extremely well, with multiple winners subsequently, including at Group level. He’s since been gelded and a rise of 10lb is unlikely to halt his immense potential, as a brother to Group 1 scorer Ghaiyyath.
🏇
Nagano
📈
Odds: 15.0
Another to strongly consider for our Royal Ascot tips is long-time absentee NAGANO, who ran with credit on sole start at this track – finishing sixth over this trip in 2021, despite significant interference down the home straight. As a thoroughly unexposed type, it would be folly to dismiss his claims, given he hails from a top Newmarket stable.

4:20PM Coronation Stakes: Mamma’s Girl tipped to challenge Tahiyra
🏇
Mamma’s Girl
📈
Odds: 3.50
Tahiyra will take plenty of catching after a smooth success in the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas at Curragh second up this season. That came after an excellent runner-up position on soft ground at Newmarket in the English equivalent. Meditate was second behind the hot favourite last time but brings course-winning form to the table. The pair are obviously the most likely winners but have been priced accordingly, offering little value in the betting. A couple of each-way options are worth small support only.
MAMMA’S GIRL won the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes on reappearance before a midfield effort in the 1000 Guineas. That modest run came on soft ground and the jockey reported that the filly wasn’t travelling on that surface. The return to a quicker track could see her bounce back and run into a minor place.
🏇
Comhra
📈
Odds: 3.75
COMHRA is another one of our Royal Ascot tips who could sneak into a place for each-way players but a top-three finish is the more likely. The Jim Bolger-trained filly is a battled-hardened individual, who ran a huge personal best when a running-on third behind the front two in the market last time. First-time cheekpieces clearly helped that day and are retained here. She should appreciate further in time and would have place appeal granted a strong pace to aim at.

5:00PM Sandringham Stakes: Jackie Oh looking to follow sister’s footsteps in Sandringham Stakes
🏇
Jackie Oh
📈
Odds: 6.50
Naas maiden winner JACKIE OH was pitched in at the deep end when an encouraging fifth in the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas. On just her third career outing she showed enough ability to suggest a Group race is well within her compass, indicating an opening handicap mark of 102 could prove lenient. She is a sister to four winners, including Onassis, who interestingly won this event in 2020 for the same connections. This race could easily have been the plan all season.
🏇
Girl Racer
📈
Odds: 13.0
GIRL RACER arrives on handicap debut, upped in trip after an odds-on defeat when fourth over 7f at Haydock. She had excuses that day, after scrawling immediately after the stalls opened and to her credit finished her race off strongly. A strongly run mile should prove advantageous and is definitely an each-way player for a leading trainer and jockey combination.

5:35PM King Edward VII Stakes: King Of Steel looking to dominate King Edward Stakes
🏇
King Of Steel
📈
Odds: 1.83
There is a danger that KING OF STEEL overperformed, with his remarkable second in the Group 1 Epsom Derby earlier this month. That massive run came on seasonal reappearance, marking the son of Wootton Bassett as a high-quality individual. If he doesn’t take any step backward (second run after a lengthy absence) then he will be extremely tough to pass, as a big, galloping type, who should excel at this track.
🏇
Artistic Star
📈
Odds: 6.50
ARTISTIC STAR heads up the next Royal Ascot tip, and harbours place claims for trainer Ralph Beckett. The Galileo colt was given the sternest test, running in the Epsom Derby after a brace of modest novice victories. He saw the race off well from an unpromising position, possibly unbalanced on the unique track. A switch to this more conventional course is likely to help and is one to firmly keep in calculations.

6:10PM Palace of Holyrood House: Clearpoint to close out Friday’s action
🏇
Clearpoint
📈
Odds: 11.0
A typically-tough sprint handicap to decipher here at Royal Ascot, where runners will be spread right across the track. CLEARPOINT is a lightly raced type, who showed signs of clicking into form on reappearance at Thirsk. First-time headgear could sharpen him up and is one to note for the places at big odds.
🏇
Kerdos
📈
Odds: 23.0
KERDOS is too big a price, compared to one of the likely favourites, Jer Batt. The selection ran a length behind him at Chester last time, over an inadequate 5f, and gave away lumps of weight. A huge 15 lb pull in the weights can turn the tables this time around, over a furlong further on this stiff course. This is a fiercely-competitive handicap so small each-way stakes are advised.
