  • Scotland have not won a friendly at home since 2016.

  • 8 of Scotland’s last 12 friendlies have seen O2.5 goals.

  • 7 of Scotland’s last 8 games have had at least 8 total corners.

Curacao Goalkeeper to Make 3+ Saves

Scotland come into this game desperate to make a positive impression, and though not typically an all-guns-blazing team under Clarke, this is the type of match in which they will expect to extend the opposing goalkeeper on a regular basis – particularly after twice drawing blanks in the March friendlies.

Scotland have had at least 5 shots on target in 4 of their last 5 competitive matches, while the opposition goalkeepers made 3 and 4 saves respectively when they tackled Japan and Ivory Coast in March.

Room is likely to be regularly worked in this game, with Curacao having conceded 5 to Australia in their last outing.

Over 2.5 Goals

While Scotland’s March fixtures yielded only a couple of goals, the recent trend is for the Scots to be involved in far more exciting matches. Prior to those friendlies, their 4 previous outings had brought a total of 18 goals – each hitting the Over 2.5 mark successfully.

Low-scoring friendly matches are something of a rarity recently when Scotland have been involved. Take out those matches earlier this year and 8 of 10 games yielded over 2.5 goals – including the 2-2 draw against Finland prior to the team leaving for Euro 2024.

Picking out comparable matches to Curacao is difficult, yet their 5-1 loss to Australia just a couple of months ago suggests they are a side that could give up goals.

Over 7.5 Corners

Scotland fixtures have typically been packed with corner kicks in the recent past. Seven of their last 8 matches has produced at least 8 corners, with 6 of these games yielding a minimum of 11. This was also the case during the March international friendlies, when there was 12 corners in the clash against Ivory Coast and 11 against Japan. Only the away fixture against Belarus (4 corners) has failed to hit this height.

Across these matches, Scotland have had more corners than their opponents on 3 occasions, fewer on 3 occasions while they equally drew on 2 occasions.

Given the hosts will expect to exert significant pressure on their opponents in this game, Clarke’s side should rack up a significant corner count once more.

📈 Scotland v Curacao Form, Stats & Team News

Scotland lost both of their March friendly internationals by a 1-0 margin, albeit these were against stronger opponents.

Clarke watched his side go down 1-0 at home against Japan and then lose 1-0 to Ivory Coast in Liverpool in what was designated an away match. Neither outing was particularly convincing from the Scots’ perspective, with the Japanese, in particular, comfortably outplaying them.

Friendly matches under Clarke have typically been a hard watch for the Tartan Army, particularly at home. Since 2021, Scotland have won only 3 of 15 friendlies. These victories came against: Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and Luxembourg.

Remarkably, it’s been a full decade since Scotland won a home friendly international. That victory came against Denmark thanks to a goal from Matt Richtie way back in March 2016. The Scots have played 11 matches since, failing to win against the likes of Canada, Northern Ireland and Iceland.

Curacao are going into their first ever World Cup campaign but do so after significant losses against China (2-0) and Australia (5-1) in March. They have won only 3 of their last 11 international matches, with victories coming home and away against Bermuda and at home against Jamaica.

Across their 10 World Cup qualifying games, they kept 6 clean sheets while they only failed to find the net on 2 occasions.

📔 Scotland v Curacao Formation & Team News

Scotland boss Steve Clarke is not typically a manager who favours experimentation, and with the World Cup just a matter of days away, the chances are that he will stick with a tried and trusted team in the main.

Of course, minutes of players who have been struggling with injury problems are likely to be limited, but equally the manager will want to see the likes of Aaron Hickey and Ben Gannon-Doak earn game time to build up their sharpness ahead of the tournament.

Thus far, Scotland are in a relatively healthy position when it comes to squad selection, with no major players out with injury ahead of the World Cup.

While Clarke used a 3-man defence against Ivory Coast, expect him to revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 shape in this game.

Curacao do not have too many household names in their squad, which is largely drawn from the Dutch leagues. However, they have managed to attract new faces thanks to their recent success, including Middlesbrough’s Sontje Hansen and Sheffield United’s Tahith Chong.

Striker Jurgen Locadia is one to watch, having once been signed by Brighton for £15 million following a prolific spell start to his career with PSV.
