Verona and Juventus both impressed in their season openers, keeping clean sheets and finding the back of the net three times. Although their season ambitions vary, both sides have a right to feel confident and it should be a fascinating affair on Monday.
Verona undoubtedly had the tougher opposition although it didn’t look like it on the day. They dispatched Napoli with ease, generating significantly more chances, keeping it tight at the back and winning comfortably.
Juventus adapted to Thiago Motta’s tactics seamlessly, controlling the game in a way they hadn’t for some time and limiting Como to just three shots, none of which were on target. In addition to their three goals, they also hit the post twice and had one goal chalked off by VAR.
If their openers were anything to go by, we should be in for a cracking game with lots of chances and hopefully lots of goals too.

Verona v Juventus Best Bets
One market we quite like is Vlahovic to score @ 2.5. It just wasn’t his day last Monday in Juventus’ clash with Como. The Serbian national didn’t manage to get his name on the scoresheet but the chances came thick and fast and it’s a testament to the opportunities he should get once more against Verona. He hit the woodwork twice and had a goal ruled out in a controversial VAR decision.
Along similar lines, backing Juventus to win @ 1.8 also looks very sensible given their excellent performance against Como. Verona were hugely impressive in their thumping of Napoli and we certainly can’t write them off, however, the expected goals read just 1.81-0.98 in their favour and Napoli appear to be in crisis right now with minimal movement in the transfer window and Antonio Conte throwing his toys out the pram. Taking points away from Juventus should prove a tougher challenger.
In the fouls market, Diego Coppola stands out. You can back him to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.22 or 2+ fouls @ 2.1. Aside from his average of 1.76 fouls per game last season, he also sinned three times against Napoli, picking up a yellow card in the process. Juventus should offer a sterner test and the chances are the youngster could get caught wrong-footed a few times.

📊 Verona Form and Stats
As mentioned, Verona were far superior to Napoli and their 3-0 victory was well merited to say the least. Their gameplan was executed to perfection and it’s likely we’ll see a similar setup against Juventus, allowing the opposition the majority of possession and aiming to hit them on the counter-attack.
As if the result wasn’t enough for The Gialloblu, all three of their goals came from new signings with Dailon Livramento and Daniel Mosquera twice finding the back of the net. The pair set Verona back just over €1 million which already looks like a bargain and a half. Verona veteran, Darko Lazovic impressed too, bagging himself two assists and winning seven duels in what was an outstanding outing for the Serbian.
As impressive a performance as it was, it’s important not to get carried away; Hellas Verona have struggled in Serie A recently. Having initially enjoyed three consecutive top half finishes after their promotion in 2019, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent years. Last season they avoided the drop by just three points which was three points more than the previous year where they survived by the skin of their teeth, after a relegation play-off against Spezia. Although the early signs are good, Verona still have it all to prove on Monday.
📊 Juventus Form and Stats
It’s safe to say there was plenty of unrest amongst the Juventus fanbase prior to their opener as fans were concerned about their lack of incomings compared to some of the big names let go. In particular, Matias Soulé’s move to Roma and Samuel Iling-Junior’s to Aston Villa caused issues given The Old Lady raised just €40 million between the two. Similarly, fan-favourite Federico Chiesa’s departure seems imminent and it doesn’t look like that’ll be for a hefty fee by any means.
However, faith in Thiago Motta seems to have been restored after he led Juventus to one of their most dominant displays in years, versus Como. Their opposition accumulated just 0.17 xG and the game looked a forgone conclusion well before half time.
On top of that, it was a day to remember for debutant, Samuel Mbangula who got his name on the scoresheet and registered an assist. A lot of Juventus fans were surprised to see him straight in the starting lineup, having just graduated from their academy but he was absolutely unstoppable and will most likely start again on Monday.
⚔️ Verona v Juventus Head-to-Head
As expected, the head-to-head record doesn’t exactly favour Verona who’ve taken just one point from their last five clashes with Juventus. That said, their only draw came in the home leg last season, in a 2-2 thriller which saw Verona pull ahead twice, however, a Vlahovic penalty was enough to prevent them from taking three points home.
It was an atypically high-scoring affair in a fixture which The Old Lady had won to nill on the previous four occasions; the last three all 1-0. That makes the goals market a difficult one to navigate.
Verona also struggled against Thiago Motta’s Bologna last season, failing to score against them in their three attempts. It remains to be seen if they’ll have the strikepower to reverse this trend.
