Fuelled by a passion for sport and a sharp instinct for uncovering patterns in data, beating the bookies became the perfect outlet for my competitive streak. Now I take pleasure in sharing my finds with ABC punters. I enjoy finding niche angles and betting value in a range of markets and leagues, my favourite being in Serie A.

With both Villarreal and Juventus enjoying promising starts to the season, it’ll be fascinating to see who comes out on top in the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Juventus are still unbeaten in all competitions, but their form has taken a turn for the worse, and the Bianconeri will be desperate for a win, having been held to three consecutive draws. Villarreal, meanwhile, have bounced back from back-to-back losses at the hands of Spurs and Atletico, to win each of their most recent three.

Juventus Double Chance

Both teams have proved difficult to beat this season, but I think Juventus probably have the edge quality-wise, and if they don't manage to take home all three points, I certainly expect them to hold out for a draw.

Each of Juventus’ last three games have ended all square, including their exhilarating 4-4 draw against Dortmund to open their Champions League account. Speaking more generally, this season, the Bianconeri have not always been able to convert their abundance of possession into a sufficient number of real chances, but defensively, they’ve been watertight. The Bianconeri remain unbeaten since the start of the season, with three wins and three draws.

Villarreal, by contrast, are enjoying a sparkling league campaign, collecting an impressive 18 points from just seven matches. However, when faced with the biggest tests, they’ve come up short, suffering defeats away to both Spurs and Atlético. Neither of those sides have been particularly impressive this season, and I expect them to struggle against a well-drilled Juventus side.

📈 Villareal v Juventus Form & Stats

Villarreal have made a superb start to the season, picking up 18 points from their opening seven, and trailing only Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Averaging a mere 0.71 goals conceded per 90, the Yellow Submarine boast the league’s joint-best defensive record, and while that does reflect a slight overperformance considering their average of 1.03xGa/90, their underlying figures are still amongst the division’s best.

Marcelino Garcia’s men come into this clash in particularly good form, having recorded wins in each of their last three games, which included tough clashes with Sevilla and, most recently, Athletic Club.

That said, Villarreal did slip up in their Champions League opener, as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The entire game produced just 1.02xG, split roughly evenly between the sides; however, Luiz Junior’s humiliating own goal in the 4th minute was enough to separate the pair in the end.

Juventus, meanwhile, treated spectators to a stunning 4-4 draw against Dortmund. Remarkably, all eight goals came in the second half, including two for the Bianconeri in stoppage time to draw level - much to my relief, having tipped BTTS & Draw for that one.

Yildiz was Juventus’ star player on that occasion, and in my view, that’s something worth getting accustomed to. To add to his goal and assist, he also fired off four shots and created three chances - both the most of any player on the pitch.

Juventus also remain unbeaten domestically, but having opened their season with three consecutive wins, they’ll be disappointed to have been held to 1-1 draws in each of their last two.

Despite their league matches producing an average of 2.8 goals, chances have often come at a premium; in fact, on average, they’ve combined with their opponents for no more than 2.1xG/90.
