Celta Vigo v Osasuna
🏟
Wednesday 19th January – 6PM KO
Celta Vigo v Osasuna won’t be the most glamorous game of this La Liga season. Far from it. These are two mid-table sides, with Celta Vigo 14th on 23 points and Osasuna in 12th on 25 points.
But, there could be some great value in the score markets for this one because Osasuna have a major problem in central defence. Starting centre-back Aridane Hernández remains a serious injury doubt, while fellow starter David García is out with COVID-19 and the club’s third-choice centre-back Unai García is out with COVID-19 too.
Logically, that’s a major blow for Osasuna, who have a below-average defence even when everybody is fit. It is now expected that they’ll start this match with fourth-choice centre-back Jonás Ramalho being partnered by backup left-back Juan Cruz. That’s not ideal.
Celta Vigo, meanwhile, have almost their entire squad available for this game and they have been doing better in home matches in recent weeks, after starting the season with struggles in front of their own fans. They have scored in each of their past four home games, netting eight in total across those four matches against Barcelona, Villarreal, Valencia and Espanyol. Against an Osasuna side missing their best three centre-backs, surely Celta Vigo can net multiple goals in this one.

Valencia v Sevilla
🏟
Wednesday 19th January – 8:30PM KO
Sevilla have a huge opportunity in front of them this Wednesday, as they travel to Valencia knowing that they can move to within just two points of Real Madrid by winning this game in hand.
That will be easier said than done, though. Mestalla is not an easy place to go and Sevilla have many personnel concerns. One big problem is that midfield anchor Fernando Reges is doubtful, while the biggest concern is the fact that starting goalkeeper Bono is at the African Cup of Nations and that backup Marko Dmitrović is a doubt. This saw youngster Alfonso Pastor have to play in goals in Sevilla’s Copa del Rey defeat to Real Betis at the weekend and he didn’t have a particularly good game, even letting in a goal straight from a corner.
Sevilla lost that cup derby 2-1, with the game played over two days given that it was abandoned on Saturday night after a rod thrown from the stands hit Joan Jordán, and then resumed on Sunday. Although Jordán is now fine, the fallout in Seville has been huge and this drama has surely been a distraction for Julen Lopetegui’s squad, with the coach working himself into the local headlines with his reaction to the incident.
At Valencia, meanwhile, it has been a much calmer week. They defeated lower league Atlético Baleares 1-0 in the cup on Sunday with a squad that was depleted because of COVID-19, but they now have almost all of their players back for this midweek match.
With Valencia having far fewer absences than Sevilla, in addition to being at home and having had a calmer cup tie last time out, there is a good chance that they can take at least a point from this game. José Bordalás’ tough-tackling defensive-minded team are difficult for possession-based sides like Sevilla to break down, so the visitors might fail to take this opportunity to pull within two points of Real Madrid.

Getafe v Granada
🏟
Thursday 20th January – 6PM KO
The final midweek La Liga game this week pits Getafe against Granada. Although both these teams are currently hovering just above the bottom three, they are still expected to be in the thick of the relegation battle in the final weeks of the season and that makes this a six-pointer.
Getafe being at home is a big advantage since they have won four and drawn one of their last five home fixtures. The most recent of these even saw them defeat league leaders Real Madrid 1-0, turning in a terrific defensive performance thanks to their solid 5-3-2 formation. With Gonzalo Villar and Borja Mayoral both ready to make their debuts after joining on loan from Roma, as well as Óscar Rodríguez after arriving from Sevilla, there is expectation among the Getafe fans ahead of this one.
Meanwhile, Granada are on a good run of form too. They haven’t lost any of their past seven league games, winning three and drawing four. But, here it should be pointed out that those three wins were at home. On the road this season, they have just one solitary LaLiga victory, and that was at bottom-placed Levante.
Getafe are the favourites and rightly so. Even if Granada have the ability to make this a tight game, it would be a shock if they pick up just their second away win of the campaign here. That’s why a very attractive option is Getafe draw no bet.
