Connah’s Quay Nomads v Pontypridd United
After a shaky start to the season, Connah’s Quay are starting to find their form. A cup win in midweek will now have them feeling they have a real chance of winning that competition but will also want to carry on moving up the league. At home is where Connah’s Quay are strongest, they have won 4 of their 5 competitive home matches this season and drew with TNS, the best side in the league by a long way, in their only game there that they haven’t won in 90 minutes.
Pontypridd have had a tough time of life in the Cymru Premier so far, however 6 points from 6 games isn’t a bad return and they have beaten both their likely relegation rivals. Against teams that are theoretically better than them they have struggled though, losing every game apart from these 2 wins. They come into this game off a disappointing loss to Afan Lido, of the league below, in midweek in the cup and Connah’s Quay is not an easy place to go. Among other issues it is a 7 hour round trip for Pontypridd and I just can’t see them getting a win out of this game. They have lost their last 3 away games in all competitions and I am backing them to lose again here.
Haverfordwest County v Flint Town
Haverfordwest continue to be involved in open matches, 5 of their last 6 matches have seen both teams score, even their midweek cup game against a team in the league below saw both teams score. Haverfordwest do try to play good football, but they also will know they need to find some better results as they have now lost 4 in a row, 3 by a one goal margin and the other on penalties. It seems like only a matter of time before they win again and being back at home will provide them with some confidence here. The benefit of playing at home against Flint, who will have to make the 8 and a half hour round trip will be huge and Haverfordwest will continue to try and play football their way.
Flint got a good draw with Bala in their last match, however they were slightly lucky to score a last minute equaliser. Like Haverfordwest, Flint are leaky at the back, both teams have scored in 4 of their last 5 matches. Flint are good away from home, only TNS have taken more points this season on the road and this quality will likely see them score and challenge for the win in this match. Both teams played in the cup in midweek and fatigue may be an issue so some rotation will likely occur. I think this will only make the game more open and with both teams’ attitudes to defending, I am backing both teams to score in this match.
