Wrexham Double Chance

Though Wrexham lost their opening Championship match against Southampton, they showed plenty of positives in their display to encourage everyone connected to the club.

With this being the first match of the season at Cae Ras, it is likely to be a better atmosphere than the majority of first round EFL Cup ties this midweek. This should help fire up the team a little more.

Also, the recruitment drive over the summer has expanded the Wrexham playing squad to the extent that Phil Parkinson’s usual policy of rotation for the opening round of the EFL Cup still should leave him with a strong team for this match.

Hull have a decent squad as well of course, having worked around their restrictions very smartly, but it is doubtful that they are viewing the EFL Cup as a priority here

Ryan Hardie to Score Anytime

Hardie didn't start on Saturday and although he came on, he is in line for his first Wrexham start here.

It has been Parkinson’s usual policy for the early EFL Cup Rounds to play his second choice forwards, and with Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass starting the season in the front two, this should be Hardie's chance.

As we fancy Wrexham to get a result here, Hardie is their most likely route to goal, so adding him into the bet makes sense.

  • Wrexham have paid seven-figure fees for new players at least four times this summer, while Hull are under a fee restriction

  • Wrexham's best ever League Cup run was in the first ever competition in 1960, they reached the quarter-finals (they matched this in 1977)

  • Hull haven't won a League Cup tie since 2020, that's four Round 1 defeats in a row

Wrexham suffered an agonising defeat at Southampton in their opening league match, but this is a chance to showcase their depth and quality.

🔴 Wrexham to Engage the Cae Ras Crowd

There is development work going on at Cae Ras, so there is only three stands up and running at the moment.

However, excitement runneth over in North Wales at the moment after beginning the season in the second tier for the first time since the early 1980s, that even though this is an EFL Cup tie, there is still likely to be a decent crowd here.

A strong home record has been the basis of Wrexham’s climb through the leagues. They won 53 points in 23 matches last season at home, and 54 points in League Two at home.

🟠 Hull Working On Squad Dynamics for Their Recent Signings

Hull were able to sign both Oli McBurnie and Joe Gelhardt last week and whilst neither were able to make the team at the weekend, one, or both, might be able to debut here.

It always seems like a constant churn at Hull as they continue to try and embrace an international recruitment model, often giving young Turkish talent a way into the English league system as well.

However, they have to get their group together quickly to stabilise themselves in the league as soon as possible.

📊Wrexham v Hull H2H

These clubs haven't met in a competitive match since being in League One together back in 2004. Ironically, they also met in the League Cup that same season as well.

Not that it particularly matters because it has no bearing on this meeting, but the cup tie finished 2-2, as did the Cae Ras league meeting. Hull won the return league fixture 2-1 that season.
