Grimsby have been shortening this week, but there’s still enough juice to get on them winning at Newport on Saturday.

David Artell’s side are still unbeaten in League Two, pulling off back-to-back 2-0 wins heading into this one, and visit a Newport side who’re winless since the opening day.

Newport have scored just twice in their last four matches, and one of those was from inside their own half, and they are yet to beat Grimsby in the four seasons since the visitors returned to League Two.

This is last season’s 7th-placed side travelling to 20th from 2025/26, and the way things have gone so far this season there could be an even bigger gap between the sides this time around.

Plymouth enter this game in strong form having won each of their last four matches, scoring at least three goals in all of these wins.

They’ve scored the second most goals of any side in League One (14), notably winning two of their three matches in front of their own fans ahead of the visit of a Burton side who have done their best work at home this season - winning just one of their three games on the road.

Burton’s recent form is also cause for concern with Gary Bowyer’s side only winning one of their last five matches, conceding 2+ goals in three of these games.

Plymouth came away 3-0 winners when these sides last met back in January, dominating the underlying numbers with an xG of 2.38 from 21 shots and also winning the away fixture 4-0. 

There are three teams remaining in League Two with a 100% record at home, Bristol Rovers are one of them.

Rovers were flying before a couple of humbling away days has brought them back down to Earth, in fairness they lost at 3rd-placed Grimsby and 4th-placed Gillingham, not the easiest back-to-back games on your travels.

Exeter have only won one of their seven League Two games so far, beating 21st-placed Accrington at home.

These sides look set to be competing at opposite ends of the table this season, and Rovers’ recent defeats have only improved the odds we’re getting on a home win this weekend.

Fleetwood have been a very stubborn side in League Two so far this season, losing just one of their opening seven matches.

They’re unbeaten at home having drawn two of their three matches in front of their own fans, notably conceding just one goal across these games.

The only team to beat Fleetwood in the league is Barnet, a side who sit top of the table in the early stages of the season and are one of only four sides in the division yet to be beaten.

Rochdale have struggled on the road this season, failing to win any of their three away matches this term. They haven’t even managed to score a goal across these games, being one of only two sides yet to score on the road in League Two.

Barrow are yet to stop the downward spiral that resulted in their relegation from League Two last season.

Southend are eyeing a return to the EFL, now in their sixth season since dropping into the National League, and they’re going the right way about it with six wins from their opening nine in the league.

Southend have scored two or more goals in each of their last four games, three or more in three of those, and beat Gateshead 6-1 on their travels last time out.

Barrow are yet to win from five league away games, conceding two or more goals in three of those and this is one of the longest away days of the season for them.

Southend could go top with a win and attacking midfielder Sam Austin is one to keep an eye on, having scored four goals in two games last week.
