Almeria are aiming to stave off their inevitable relegation from La Liga a little longer, but if they are to do so, they will have to pick up just their second win of the season when they host Getafe.
The visitors have little left to play for, having dropped off the pace of European football, yet they will not wish the ignominy of joining Las Palmas as the only teams that the bottom side in Spain’s top-flight have beaten this season.
Almeria have shown credible spirit in recent weeks, despite their hopeless situation, and are aiming for a first home win of any sort since beating Mallorca 3-0 on May 20, 2023.

⚔️ Almeria v Getafe Head-to-Head
Although Getafe picked up a 2-1 victory in the previous meeting between these sides back in November, it was a game they rode their luck in.
Almeria took the lead through Largie Ramazani after seven minutes before Mason Greenwood helped to turn the tide with an equaliser. Borja Mayoral got what proved the winner shortly before the break yet Getafe produced a smaller xG than their opponents in that clash (1.2-1.8).
It was also evident that the hosts were getting edgy at being beaten by a struggling opponent. They picked up both of their two bookings when trailing, although Almeria wound up with four by full time.
Mayoral and Greenwood carried the Getafe threat. As well as scoring, both managed multiple shots on target.
Almeria, though, had six corners to Getafe’s three. This reflects the long term trend in La Liga this season. While Los Rojiblancos have won 144 corner kicks this season compared to their rivals’ 119 – the second-lowest figure in the league.
That result earlier this term, however, is in contrast to the two wins Almeria secured last season, including a 1-0 home win.
📊 Almeria Form and Stats
Almeria’s form has been miserable this season. Their tally of one win from 32 matches tells much of the story of this campaign. There have been hard-luck stories, too, notably their 3-2 loss away to Real Madrid when questionable refereeing helped deny them a memorable win that might have changed the course of their season.
Despite their hopeless position, they have become more competitive in recent weeks. They have only lost three of their last nine La Liga matches, although five of those were draws. They have troubled some leading sides, though. Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad both had to settle for 2-2 draws against the relegation-bound side.
Last up was a 2-1 loss against Villarreal in which they had 1.8 xG compared to their opponents’ 1.6.
This is not a shot-shy team. They sit tenth among La Liga teams in terms of total shots this season. Their trouble, though, is that they give up the second-highest number of shots and are third in terms of shots on target conceded.
Equally, they rate 11th in terms of corner kicks won but give up more than any other side in the league. They attempted 24 shots.
The results have been predictable: although they are comparatively competitive in terms of goals, they have the worst defensive record in the league. They have conceded at least two in each of their last three games.
Adrian Embarba is the player to watch. He has scored three times in Almeria’s last five games and has had at least one shot on target in three of those five.
📊 Getafe Form and Stats
Jose Bordalas’ side are rather limping towards the end of the season, having won just one of their last eight matches.
The downturn in their level has coincided with a meniscus injury to key striker Mayoral, who will not play again this season. He has 15 La Liga goals this season – nine more than second-leading marksman Greenwood.
Getafe have scored only two goals in five matches since their ace was struck down. Worryingly, their scoring chances have dried up, too. In their two most recent matches against Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad, they have managed a combined 0.8 xG.
During this sequence, Los Azulones have averaged three shots on target per game and there has not been an occasion in which a single player has had more than a single shot on target in the same match. Greenwood, the man they are looking towards, has just one shot on target in four games.
Defensively, Getafe are performing solidly. They have only given up 14 shots on target in this same period while none of their opponents have had more than 43% possession.
The foul count of the Madrid side is sizeable, though. They have given up at least 11 fouls in each of their last six matches.
These have been scrappy, ill-tempered affairs. Their opponents have seen 19 cards in this sequence.
💰 Almeria v Getafe Best Bets
With neither of these sides in healthy scoring form, it is likely to be a game that is short of goals.
Almeria are the outfit putting more intensity to their performances at present, despite their situation, and for that reason, Almeria double chance at 1.50 with Sky Bet looks a shrewd bet.
Adrian Embarba to score anytime at 6.0 on Sky Bet looks the best value in this clash, having been in good form recently for the hosts.
