PSG v Arsenal

📅

Kick Off: Wednesday 7th May at 20:00

🏆
Competition: Champions League

Arsenal’s season rests on a positive result in Paris against Luis Enrique’s dazzling PSG side who could finally be in line to get their hands on the prestigious trophy for the first time in their history. The Gunners’ 2-1 loss to Bournemouth at home last time out showed that Arsenal’s focus is now entirely on the Champions League, the result will have been a little worrying for Arteta seeing as he went with quite a strong lineup.

PSG rotated heavily for their 2-1 loss against Strasbourg over the weekend, but are likely to return to a full-strength side here. We’ve already seen Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Manchester City struggle at the Parc Des Princes this season in the Champions League, so a positive result here will require Arsenal’s best performance of the season.

PSG GK to Make 3+ Saves

Gianluigi Donnarumma was called into action on five occasions in PSG’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the first leg. These were all fine saves that dented Arsenal’s confidence as the game went on. The Gunners will need to be quite positive here if they are to get through to the final.

Donnarumma has made 2.32 saves per game in the Champions League this season. Arsenal have already shown that they can force an increase in that average, and the context surrounding this game suggests that they can force a similar rise in Paris.

Arsenal have been finding something extra in the Champions League in the final third this season. They drew 3+ saves from Thibaut Courtois in both legs of their quarter-final clash against Real Madrid, and the five shots on target they managed in the first leg meeting against Luis Enrique’s side suggests that they can continue this attacking style, in a game where the onus is on them to create shooting opportunities.

Donnaruma showcased his quality in the first leg with those important saves to make PSG real favourites to progress to the final heading into this tie. He’ll be expecting to be tested again here by an Arsenal side who are relying on progression to the final to salvage something from their season.

PSG to Win; PSG GK to Make 3+ Saves & Over 1.5 Arsenal Cards

PSG to Win:

PSG have already seen off Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool in the Champions League this season. Their 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates will fill them with confidence here. The pressure is on Mikel Arteta’s men to try and break this PSG side down, but the real challenge will be keeping them out.

PSG GK to Make 3+ Saves:

Arsenal drew five saves from Donnarumma in the first leg and drew 3+ saves from Courtois in each of their Champions League quarter-final matches against Real Madrid.

Over 1.5 Arsenal Cards:

Arsenal picked up two yellow cards in the first half of the first leg. There is likely to be some frustration at times here from the away side as they look to get back into the tie. Cards could also come when PSG look to break and Arsenal aren’t as set in their structure as they usually would be.
