Scotland host Belarus as Steve Clarke’s side aim to make it six points from six in October’s international break.

Far from their best against Greece on Thursday, the Scots were sparked into late action by the visiting side’s opener at Hampden and they stormed back from behind to secure a 3-1 win. It is a victory that carries the Tartan Army to the brink of a play-off spot at worst.

By contrast, Belarus are coming off the back of a 6-0 loss to Denmark. It was their third defeat in as many matches, leaving them with just one goal scored and 13 conceded.

These Scotland v Belarus Betting Stats provide extra value ahead of kick-off.

4 Selections @ 3.13

Scotland -1.5 Handicap @ 1.44

This leg lands if Scotland win by two or more goals.

Scotland’s last three wins have all come by multiple goals, and it would be surprising if Belarus finished this encounter within touching distance of the home nation.

The manner in which these teams come into this game could barely be any different. Scotland have their tails up after scoring three late goals against Greece, whereas their opponents looked like they wanted to be anywhere but a football pitch as they finished their match with Denmark in a sloppy fashion, conceding farcical goals.

In an empty stadium in Hungary, Scotland were far from their best as they delivered a comfortable 2-0 win, boasting 73% of the ball and four big chances. At a packed Hampden, they will expect to up their level further.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.53

Yes, we know that Steve Clarke likes to play conservatively, but Scotland should be well capable of racking up a sizeable number of goals at Hampden.

Belarus, after all, have conceded four or more goals in three of their last four internationals, giving up at least 2 xG in each of those games. It is also interesting to note that they have been at least 3-0 down at the break in three of those fixtures, including their only away qualifier, which ended in a 5-1 loss against Greece.

The visitors can ship goals, and with Scotland surely confident after their late rally against Greece, look for the hosts to record an entertaining win.

John McGinn to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.30

McGinn’s status as a talisman for Scotland may have faded somewhat in recent months due to the emergence of Scott McTominay, but the Aston Villa star should have a big impact in this match.

Across his last seven competitive matches for Scotland, he has managed at least one shot on target on four occasions.

He’s also been in a rich spell of form for Villa, despite the overall struggles for Unai Emery’s side. McGinn recently netted in three successive matches against Bologna, Fulham and Feyenoord, so don’t expect him to be lacking confidence to have a go in the encounter.

McGinn is one of the Scotland stars who will be expected to get into advanced positions and pose Belarus serious questions.

Scotland Over 4.5 Corners @ 1.33

This match represents Scotland’s best opportunity to notch a big corner count in World Cup qualifying. It’s not something they have been specialists in doing, despite getting four flag kicks in their fixtures against Greece and Denmark.

Sunday’s fixture will offer a very different dynamic, though. Clarke’s men will spend much of this game on the front foot against a very defensively minded opponent, and with the likes of Ben Gannon-Doak and Andy Robertson providing width, Scotland should get into the type of zones that will give them the opportunity to win such situations.

Belarus have given up 20 corners in their three qualifiers at a rate of 6.66 per match – including 11 in their sole away trip against Greece.

📈 Scotland v Belarus Form & Tactics

Scotland’s win over Greece was just their second Hampden win in their last 10 matches at the Glasgow venue, and the nature of the 3-1 success was also highly unconvincing.

The nature of this game means it’s unwise to look at Scotland’s qualifying campaign as a whole when analysing this fixture. In the matches against Denmark and Greece, they saw barely any of the ball, posting 27% and 33% possession, respectively. Against Belarus, they had 73% of the ball, making this a very different type of clash.

Che Adams leads Scotland with seven shots and four on target in this campaign, yet the overwhelming majority of these came in Hungary against Belarus last month. He had five shots in that game, including four on target, scoring the opener.

Scott McTominay, who has been Scotland’s big scoring threat in recent months, was used in a deeper role against Greece and carried little threat. Despite midfielders contributing three of Scotland’s five goals, he is yet to find the target.

Belarus, meanwhile, will expect to come under serious pressure. They have conceded 13 goals in qualifying across three games and are yet to post more than 36% of the ball.

Their record of ‘only’ conceding eight shots on target against Scotland when the sides last met, meanwhile, is impressive by their standards. They have given up 34 shots on target so far, with their tally of 11.33 per 90 the highest in UEFA qualification ahead of the likes of San Marino and Moldova – both of whom have shipped double-digit goal tallies in individual matches recently.

📔 Scotland v Belarus Formation & Team News

Scotland manager Steve Clarke will need to make at least three changes in the starting XI for this game compared to the team that edged Greece.

Aaron Hickey has been forced out due to injury, likely opening the door for Anthony Ralston to start in the right back berth. This may've been a planned change in any case, as the Brentford defender is still making his way back from a long term problem and only started one of the September international games.

Alterations, too, are required in a midfield that needs to be revamped due to suspensions for Ryan Christie and Lewis Ferguson. Billy Gilmour will certainly start, with the Napoli star set to be paired with the experienced Kenny McLean, given the manager’s preference to opt for tried-and-tested options.

Belarus have the same panel that was heavily beaten by Denmark on Thursday, with no injury problems yet reported from Carlos Alos’ ranks. The visitors are set to opt for a very defensive formation if that encounter is anything to go by, with a 5-3-2 system set to be used.

📊 Scotland v Belarus Key Stats

  • Both teams to score has only occurred in two of Scotland’s seven 2025 fixtures.

  • Belarus have given up 11.33 shots on target per 90 – the highest figure among all UEFA nations.

  • Scotland have scored with 33% of their shots on target in the last three games.

  • Belarus won 1-0 on their last visit to Hampden, though that was back in 2005.
