Despite Bayern’s failure to retain the Bundesliga title last season, Harry Kane was exceptional. As expected, the Englishman claimed the Bundesliga Golden Boot after netting 36 times across his 32 appearances, fending off the likes of Serhou Guirassy (28) and Lois Openda (24).
Kane’s scoring form was not exclusive to domestic football, with Bayern’s frontman sharing the top spot with Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League goalscoring charts, having scored 8 goals across his 12 starts, while also netting three times at Euro 2024.
Although Kane’s quality was significantly responsible for his numbers last season, credit must be given to those around him. Bayern’s squad is packed with creative individuals like Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala – all of whom provided a combined 26 assists last season.
However, this has not prevented Bayern from further strengthening in this area, with Michael Olise joining from Crystal Palace. The addition of Olise, who has delivered 10 assists across his last 12 competitive starts for club and country, should help Kane produce another outstanding goal tally this term.
Last season, Kane scored an average of 1.13 goals per game, and the only individual that scored at a remotely similar rate was Guirassy (1.00), who will likely pose the greatest threat to Kane’s title again this season. Guirassy, who has made the switch to Dortmund this summer, was the main man at Stuttgart last season; however, we cannot be certain as to whether this will be the case at his new club.
Ultimately, this makes a stronger case for backing Kane to win the Golden Boot for a second consecutive season.

Prior to the beginning of the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign, Serhou Guirassy was seldom mentioned in discussions surrounding the top goalscorer market. However, following last season’s excellent display, plenty are talking about Dortmund’s new man this time around, with excellent value of 10.0 available for this selection.
Guirassy caught everyone off-guard with his explosive start to last season, with the Guinean striker netting 14 times across his first nine appearances, and although his scoring rate slowed down slightly after this stage, he still ended the season with an even goal-to-game ratio. This feat is even more impressive considering the fact that he endured a fairly disrupted Bundesliga campaign, missing ten matches due to both injury and the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Despite Guirassy’s quality, my only real concern with this selection surrounds the existing array of players in Dortmund’s attacking department, with the presence of multiple high-quality players such as Sebastian Haller, Karim Adeyemi and Donyell Malen. However, it will be extremely difficult for Nuri Sahin to leave out a player that netted 28 times at this level last season, especially if Guirassy starts the season in a similar way to how he did last season.
Moreover, with AFCON not taking place this season, Guirassy should be able to make more than 28 appearances this season, and should he carry last season’s form into this season, we can expect him to cement his place in Dortmund’s starting lineup and find himself in contention for the top spot in the scoring charts come May.

💣 Lois Openda to Win Golden Boot
Lois Openda had an excellent start to life in Germany last season, netting 24 goals across his 34 appearances – the third greatest tally in the Bundesliga; and now he has settled in, all involved at Leipzig have high hopes that the Belgian forward will better his tally this season.
Openda, who scored an average of 0.71 goals per league game last season, is clearly a confidence player, and it is very difficult to stop him scoring once he gets firing. The Belgian striker demonstrated this last season, excelling in the first four months of 2024, netting 13 goals in 15 league appearances.
The Belgian forward has looked sharp since returning to Leipzig following Euro 2024, scoring twice across his 162 minutes of pre-season football. It is worth noting that these goals have come against strong opposition in Aston Villa and PSG.
It is evident that the market favourite, Kane, possesses more experience than Openda; however, many have argued that the Englishman’s age (31) is beginning to become a problem, and are anticipating a decline in his form. Meanwhile, twenty-four year-old Openda has age on his side and is consistently developing, and now holds valuable Bundesliga experience after last season.
Leipzig have a relatively easy opening day fixture, hosting relegation-tipped Bochum at the Red Bull Arena. This encounter could provide the perfect opportunity for Openda to kickstart a similar run of form to that he experienced at the beginning of the year, which will be vital should he wish to replace Kane as the Golden Boot holder.
