Chelsea to Receive the Most Cards

PSG are favourites to lift the trophy with Chelsea quoted around 3.5 to win the tournament. While Chelsea may not quite be able to get their hands on the trophy against this imperious PSG side, they are in a good position to collect more cards than their opponents in this final.

Chelsea have been shown 13 yellow cards across their six games at the Club World Cup (2.16 per game). PSG have only received five cautions across their six games in the competition (0.83 per game) - Luis Enrique’s side have only picked up more than one caution in one game at the Club World Cup which was the opening clash against Atletico Madrid.

Not only is there a disparity between the card numbers of these sides at the Club World Cup, their respective numbers over the course of the season would suggest that Chelsea will end up with more bookings here. Chelsea picked up 99 yellow cards during the 24/25 Premier League campaign, more than any other side in the division, marking the second season running where Chelsea have collected the most yellow cards in the division.

By contrast, PSG only received 40 yellow cards during the 24/25 Ligue 1 season (1.17 per game) which was the lowest of any side in the French top division. It was a similar case in the Champions League, despite going all the way in the tournament the Parisians only collected 19 yellow cards which was lower than the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich who were all knocked out earlier in the competition. PSG’s opponents in the Champions League were shown 36 cards (2.11 per game).

Joao Pedro to have 1+ Shots on Target

Joao Pedro announced himself as a Chelsea player in perfect fashion with a brace in the semi-final to take the Blues to the showpiece event. Both goals were excellent finishes and highlighted the clinical finish that Chelsea have been missing in the final third.

Joao Pedro was also bright in his brief cameo off the bench in the quarter-finals against Palmeiras, so he comes into this final with plenty of confidence and momentum. Joao Pedro had a decent season for Brighton during the 24/25 campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists across his 30 appearances for Brighton.

If his debut is a marker, then we can expect more strong performances from Joao Pedro, who should have opportunities to find the target at least once here.

Joao Neves to Commit 2+ Fouls

PSG’s midfield trio may be set for their toughest test so far in this final against a Chelsea midfield setup that has been improving under Enzo Maresca. Chelsea have experimented with a midfield three at the Club World Cup, having opted for a double pivot for the majority of the season.

Neves is the most active player in the PSG midfield when it comes to fouls; he’s committed five fouls across his six appearances at the Club World Cup so far (1.05 per 90). We can expect that to rise here, seeing as he’ll be up against Enzo Fernandez (1.19 fouls won per 90) and Moises Caicedo (1.88 fouls won per 90).

Neves made more tackles than any other player in PSG’s demolition of Real Madrid in the semi-final (four) and was shown a yellow card in the game, taking his tally to the tournament to two cautions. Neves should be just as busy here against a talented Chelsea midfield which may just be able to match the intensity of the Parisians in the middle of the park.

💻 Chelsea v PSG Form and Tactics

Chelsea should be optimistic about their chances of getting their hands on the trophy here, the draw opened up nicely for the Blues after they finished 2nd in the group. They’ve only faced one European team at the Club World Cup so far, which was in the Round of 16 against Benfica.

On the other hand, PSG have had to battle past Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and most recently Real Madrid to reach the final. The dominance of the Parisians in those games will be a warning to Chelsea, this PSG side can put you out of a game quite quickly, as they displayed in their 4-0 rout of Real Madrid in the semi-final.

When assessing the most important areas of the pitch, the midfield battle stands out as well as the 1 v 1 duel between Desire Doue and Marc Cucurella. Chelsea’s midfield has improved week on week under Enzo Maresca, who has found a system to get the most out of £100m men Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. They’ll be facing up against the most efficient midfield three in Europe, but should still be hopeful of coming out on top in this battle.
