Spain’s flawless Group B showing has seen them emerge as one of the favourites to win Euro 2024. After being housed in the so-called Group of Death, Luis de la Fuente’s side topped their section with maximum points and found themselves home and hosed as group winners with a game to spare. A round of 16 clash with Georgia should keep the Spanish juggernaut rolling into the quarter-finals, where they would then have to test their mettle against some higher quality, with Germany their likeliest foes at that stage.

However, Spain have become European Championship semi-final mainstays, reaching the final four in three of the last four additions, the most recent of which they were unlucky to be eliminated from.

Since then, Spain have appeared in two Nations League finals, triumphing 12 months ago, so they should be well-versed for the latter stages.

Austria were touted as Euro 2024 dark horses in the lead up to the tournament and they certainly lived up to that tag during the group stage of the competition. Ralf Rangnick’s side caused a real stir in a devilishly-difficult looking Group D, topping a pool that included France, Netherlands and Poland.

In fact, Austria have lost just two of their last 19 matches, triumphing in an eye-catching 14 of those encounters.

Their group D exploits will see them come up against Turkey in the last-16. Furthermore, the landlocked nation now find themselves on the softer side of the knockout-round bracket, which only increases the possibility of them going deep and reaching uncharted territory .

Having already pushed France to the limit before defeating the Dutch, Rangnick’s charges certainly won’t be fazed by the prospect of running into another heavyweight. Das Team have already demonstrated that they have the potential to hurt anyone on their day, and they look the liveliest front-runners outside of the usual suspects.
