Feyenoord v Celtic
📅
Date: Tuesday 19th September
🏆
Competition: Champions League
⏰
Kick off: 20:00

Watch live: TNT Sports 1
Another Champions League campaign kicks off for Celtic on Tuesday at the home of Eredivisie champions Feyenoord in a repeat of the 1970 European Cup final.
This is the second Netherlands vs. Scotland clash in the competition already this season, with PSV having overcome Rangers in a playoff battle that was ultimately won with ease by the Eredivisie side.
Celtic, who have not reached the knockout round of the Champions League since 2012-13 and finished dead last in their group a year ago, will be hoping for an altogether more positive outcome. After six years without an away win in the group stages of this competition, that will be no easy task.
For those interested in Feyenoord v Celtic stats, this is the first time that these clubs have met since 1970, when the Dutch side triumphed 2-1 after extra-time.
We have the fully fleshed-out Feyenoord v Celtic stats and research included below, as well as our world-famous Cheat Sheet. With multiple betting angles having value, this preview contains two Feyenoord v Celtic bet builder tips. Feyenoord: Goals, goals, goals at De Kuip
Feyenoord have bounced back strong after making a slow start to the season that saw them fail to win any of their first three competitive matches. The Eredivisie champions have found their groove in style lately, twice winning 6-1 at home while they also picked up a 5-1 away victory en route to three successive triumphs. Goals are on the cards for a Feyenoord bet builder.
This hat-trick of emphatic wins is a perfect way to approach the Rotterdammers’ return to Champions League action for the first time in six years. They have had to watch as Ajax, primarily, moved into the European spotlight, yet their dramatic run to the title last season was a reminder of the qualities of Arne Slot’s team.
This run of results is more spectacular than anything they achieved last season when scoring twos and threes was typically enough to get them wins.
In Europe, meanwhile, they ventured into the Europa League and gave a good account of themselves, notably beating Sturm Graz 6-0 at home and Shakhtar Donetsk 7-1 before being marginally undone by Jose Mourinho’s Roma. Celtic also faced Shakhtar Donetsk last season and twice drew 1-1.
Feyenoord team news
Notably, Feyenoord will be without the suspended Santiago Gimenez, who was hotly linked to many major clubs in the summer. The Mexican was their leading marksman last season and already has six in six games this time around – no one else has more than two. Ayase Ueda is missing in the attack, too.
Also missing is talented goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, who has a broken wrist and will be absent for another six weeks.
There are doubts over Bart Nieuwkoop and Antoni Milambo, though neither are regulars.
Celtic: Rodgers looking for liftoff
If Feyenoord are coming to the boil after an uneasy start to the season, it could be argued that Celtic are moving in the opposite direction. Although the Hoops ultimately beat Dundee 3-0 at the weekend, it was a laboured success, with all their goals coming in the second half.
Already the pressure is building on manager Brendan Rodgers, who was a rather unpopular pick to return to the club in the summer following the roaring success of Ange Postecoglou. Although there have only been a couple of slips – a 0-0 draw at home against St Johnstone and a 1-0 League Cup loss at Kilmarnock – it’s clear that the dashing offensive football that was prevalent last season has gone.
But Rodgers does have a chance to trump Postecoglou. The Aussie failed to make any significant headway in Europe, failing to win a single Champions League fixture out of eight matches in the competition and only picking up three wins across 14 continental outings since knocking Dutch side AZ out of the 2021/22 Europa League.
In his previous stint, the Northern Irishman found the Champions League group stages a bridge too far, picking up only one win from 12. Across those matches, though, Celtic faced Barcelona, Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach, PSG, Bayern Munich and Anderlecht. With a kinder group this time around, the 1967 winners will hope to cause an upset or two.
Celtic team news
Any Celtic bet builder should be made with the club’s daunting injury situation in mind. In particular, they are bereft of defenders, with key man Cameron Carter-Vickers ruled out along with summer signing Maik Nawrocki and backup option Stephen Welsh. Nat Phillips should be available to play.
Liel Abada is out in attack, but Kyogo Furuhashi should overcome a minor injury concern to play. The Japanese is a key cog to Celtic offensively. All this is vital for Feyenoord v Celtic bet builder tips.

🎯 Feyenoord to have 6+ shots on target
📈
Odds: 1.80
The Dutch outfit are a relentless attacking side, so look for them to exploit Celtic’s defensive absentees by getting forward and getting shots at goal. Not only are they scoring lots of goals at present, but they are also unloading plenty of shots on target. They have managed at least six efforts on goal in each of their five Eredivisie matches so far this season – including during a 0-0 draw with Fortuna Sittard, in which they played more than an hour down to 10 men.
Although Santiago Gimenez is missing, they are spreading efforts around their team well. At the weekend, eight of their starting XI had efforts on goal while six different men tested the goalkeeper. With Celtic weak at the back, Feyenoord will look to pounce.

⚽ Both teams to score
📈
Odds: 1.65
It’s an easy selection for a Feyenoord bet builder to back the home team to score given they have found the net 17 times in their last three games, even in the absence of Santiago Gimenez. Similarly, Celtic should be well capable of scoring, too.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have netted in four of their six competitive matches but playing on the break should offer them plenty of scoring chances that they do not get playing domestically. The pace of Furuhashi in attack will be able to get in behind their opponents and that should be a productive way for the Scottish side to create chances.
Even last season, Celtic scored in their three away Champions League games, and they will expect to be able to keep that positive run going.

🛑 Liam Scales to commit 1+ foul
📈
Odds: 1.62
It’s a huge night for Celtic centre-back Liam Scales, who is liable to be handed a Champions League debut in this encounter. Although he has performed in a disciplined manner in the Premiership, he has rarely been put under the type of pressure he is bound to face on Tuesday.
Indeed, the only match where he has been significantly stretched has been the Old Firm derby against Rangers – he made three fouls in that game. It is reasonable to expect that in similar circumstances in Rotterdam, he could get drawn into a similar type of performance in what is the biggest game of his career to date.

🎯 Feyenoord to have 6+ shots on target
📈
Odds: 1.80
Expanding on the above bet builder, the Dutch side’s attacking prowess will be a serious test for this Celtic defence. Domestically they are scoring goals for fun in the Eredivisie, and will be a handful for Celtic who traditionally have underperformed in Europe’s premier competition in recent years.
At least 6 shots to hit the target looks to be solid value at 1.80, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Joe Hart be named man of the match with the amount of shots he could face in Rotterdam.

🛑 Liam Scales to commit 2+ fouls
📈
Odds: 3.75
3.75 represents tremendous value for a young full-back to make 2+ fouls in their Champions League debut away from home.
As mentioned above, Scales has been able to keep a lid on things discipline wise for the majority of the Scottish domestic season, but showed his prowess for getting stuck in when it matters, highlighted by his three fouls in the most recent Old Firm.
Celtic may very well have a chance in this game, but they will have to absorb a vast amount of pressure to do so. Scales is 100% one to watch for fouls in this game.

⚽ Matt O’Riley to score or assist
📈
Odds: 4.50
Completing the Celtic bet builder is Matt O’Riley to have a hand in a goal. The Hoops have shared their goals around sparingly this season – only four players have scored and one of those, Liel Abada, is out injured.
O’Riley, meanwhile, has been given greater licence to get forward by Brendan Rodgers and appears to be thriving on this. The Denmark international has three goals and two assists already this season and is second behind only Kyogo in terms of decisive actions. Indeed, he has a goal or assist in four of five league matches. This may just be his time.
