Fuelled by a passion for sport and a sharp instinct for uncovering patterns in data, beating the bookies became the perfect outlet for my competitive streak. Now I take pleasure in sharing my finds with ABC punters. I enjoy finding niche angles and betting value in a range of markets and leagues, my favourite being in Serie A.

Both Lecce and Roma have climbed to heights much higher than their xPts would suggest, and one, if not both, of these sides will begin their convergence on Tuesday.

Every point counts for the hosts as they look to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, but nonetheless, the visitors remain the favourites coming into this encounter.

📈 Lecce v Roma Form & Stats

Lecce’s search for consistency has gone largely unfulfilled, and although they’ve been able to churn out a crop of positive results against fellow relegation candidates, the Salentini have looked well out of their depth against mid-to-upper table opposition.

Despite having built a five-point buffer above the relegation zone, Lecce rank last for xPts, and have created fewer xG than their opponents in seven of their previous eight league outings.

Last time out, they managed to hold Juventus to an impressive 1-1 draw, although the underlying stats suggest that the scoreline falls well short of telling the whole story. The Bianconeri created 2.77xG on that occasion, including a missed penalty, compared to the meagre 0.26 of Lecce.

Roma too have failed to replicate their early-season form, suffering three losses across their last five in Serie A. In doing so, the Giallorossi have further extended their poor run of form against Italy’s elite, which has seen each of Inter, Milan, Napoli, Juventus, and Atalanta defeat Roma. That said, a more positive outlook would highlight that aside from those games, Gasperini’s men have picked up 33 points from a possible 39.

Roma’s last outing saw Gasperini’s return to Bergamo end in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Atalanta. La Dea managed only two shots on target all game, but still, Scalvini’s header from a corner proved decisive.
