Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Kick Off: Sunday 24th May at 16:00
Competition: Premier League
Palace are unbeaten in their last six matches - a run made all the more impressive given the calibre of opposition, including Bournemouth, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, and Man City.
At the heart of it all is Eberechi Eze, who’s been in sensational form, finding the net in each of his last six.
Liverpool have lost two of their last three league games, drawing the other. This matches the number of defeats from their previous 34 outings.
Perhaps somewhat worryingly, they also conceded eight goals over these three games.
Having wrapped up the league some time back, Liverpool have seemingly taken their foot off the gas in their last few matches, although we can hope they’ll step up for their final game of the season, which will unfold at Anfield against Crystal Palace.
The visitors have endured a fantastic season, even if this isn’t completely reflected in their league position of 12th.
The Eagles have already set a club record in accumulating 52 points this season - the most they’ve managed since the Premier League’s inception, however, the limelight was stolen by their glorious 1-0 FA Cup victory over Man City, marking the club's first ever major trophy.
Whichever way this match goes, both teams can be immensely proud of the performances they’ve put out this season, and with so much quality on show, we should be in for an entertaining affair.
⭐ Liverpool v Crystal Palace Predictions and Best Bets
With Crystal Palace in great form and Liverpool’s form dropping following the official confirmation that they would be crowned league champions, backing Palace to win or draw at 2.88 looks a great bet. The Eagles are unbeaten in seven despite having encountered some of England’s toughest teams, and will be keen to follow up on their FA Cup win, with a top-half finish.
Helping them along their way has been Eberechi Eze, who has been priced as generously as 3.75 to score anytime, despite having bagged in each of his last six appearances, including the FA Cup winner, and Crystal Palace’s fourth against Wolves last time out, despite playing no more than 10 minutes.
Additionally, with Liverpool, among other clubs, reportedly interested in securing the services of the Englishman for next season, he has an additional incentive to perform at Anfield.
🔴 Champions Cruise as Intensity Drops Following Title Win
Having put in an immense shift throughout the season, and with fixture congestion as rampant as it is, you can’t really blame Liverpool for kicking back a bit after wrapping up the title.
The two defeats they've suffered in their last three league outings match the total number of losses they had accumulated across their previous 34 games since the start of the season - a sharp dip in form, albeit at the perfect time.
In between those losses, Liverpool conceded two to give up a two-goal lead against Arsenal, meaning they are now three games without a win.
Although it’s unlikely to bother Arne Slott too much, if it had been earlier in the season, he would have been much more concerned about the eight goals they conceded over those matches, something which bears significance for punters, even if without implication on the league.
🟡 Palace Set Sights on Top-Half Finish After Cup Glory
Crystal Palace, by contrast, boast arguably the best run they’ve endured since the start of the season, now remaining undefeated across each of their last seven matches.
That run included a fair few tough clashes, including the likes of Bournemouth, Arsenal, Aston Villa (W), Nottingham Forest, Tottenham (W), and Man City (W), hence they’re unlikely to be intimidated by Liverpool’s stature.
This impressive run was preceded by another strong spell, separated only by two defeats - an earlier seven-game unbeaten streak in which Palace racked up six wins and a draw, albeit against weaker opponents.
Last time out, Palace hit Wolves for four, triumphing 4-2 in a fascinating watch at Selhurst Park.
📊 Liverpool v Crystal Palace Head-to-Head Key Stats
Somewhat surprisingly, Liverpool’s head-to-head record against Crystal Palace isn’t as dominant as one might expect. The Reds have managed just two wins across their last five meetings with Palace, with two draws and a loss serving as a warning not to underestimate their opponents.
That said, Liverpool did manage to get over the line in the reverse fixture, which ended 1-0 in their favour, a result which pretty accurately reflected the flow of the game. Diogo Jota found the back of the net in the ninth minute on his 100th start for the club, and Palace were unable to offer much in return, accumulating 0.64 xG to Liverpool’s 1.39 over the 90.
